What Is A Moonphase Watch And How Do You Set It? - Watch and Learn #40

In today's episode of Watch and Learn, we will be discussing moonphase watches. A moonphase watch simply tells you the current phase of the moon. Simple, right? But we will break it down and explain why the moon changes phase, and how a few different watches try to portray moonphase on the dial. We will eliminate some confusion that comes from "sun and moon" watches as well.

Lastly, we will set a Graf Zeppelin Moonphase watch from scratch, to show you the entire process. This watch uses a Ronda 706B moonphase and calendar movement. So these steps can be used to set any watch using this movement, or a variant thereof.

I've had my Zeppelin moonphase for several years, my wife bought it for me in Germany as a gift and I love it. Thanks to this video, it is now ready to be set for the next full moon for the first time ever since leaving the factory! I set it up for 2 days from now when the moon peaks, but left the crown out so it doesn't run. Day after tomorrow after 6pm all I have to do is push the crown back in and it's on. Such a beautiful watch, I almost hate wearing it too much because I don't want to scratch it up.

This is a very much appreciated video. That said, , in other videos you've sloughed off replacing the battery in this Zeppelin moon phase watch as if it was no big thing. Well it is a big thing. Hints on selecting the right screws for battery hold-down, and hints on how easiest to replace the back would be very much appreciated.
