Former New Zealand cricket captain, Chris Cairns arrived at Southwark Crown Court on Monday as the first day of his trial got underway.
Cairns is accused of perjury relating to a libel action case he won in the UK three years ago.
Cairns successfully sued Indian Premier League founder Lalit Modi and was awarded damages of £90,000.
Modi was also made to pay the cricketer's legal costs, amounting to £400,000.
This after Modi took to social media site Twitter to accuse Cairns of match-fixing.
However, the former Black Cap now faces perjury charges.
Cairns arrived in court two hours before proceedings were scheduled to start.
His associate Andrew Fitch-Holland appeared alongside him.
Fitch-Holland advised Cairns during the libel case in 2012 and faces one charge of perverting the course of justice.
