Mistake! You protestants despise the inheritance Jesus left us when He departed from this world, called Sacraments. When you confess to God it is necessary to make an act of humbleness thanks to which God will accept your repentance and pardon you, and it can be enacted only through sacramental confession, in front of a priest. Making a confession “in front of God the Father alone” as you say, lacks that necessary act of humility. On the other hand “Nobody can reach the Father but through Me”. If you despise sacraments you despise Jesus, if you despise Jesus you cannot reach the Father. Priesthood and confession are two sacraments necessary to reach the most important among the seven Sacraments: the Eucharist. Participate in the Eucharist is the only way Jesus left us to participate in the wholeness of the reality of Christ, is the only way we have to receive as inheritance not this or that but His own Human-Divine Nature and become God’s sons effectively
