If you walk into a Xi'an Famous Foods, you'll likely hear the rhythm of wide hand-pulled noodles slapping onto the counter. The restaurant's biang biang noodles are the star of its most popular dish, spicy cumin lamb noodles, one of the dishes born out of a father-son dream to share the cuisine of their hometown. The city of Xi'an sits at the eastern end of the Silk Road, where flavors and cuisines of China and the Middle East combine, and today, the cuisine attracts hungry New Yorkers to Xi'an Famous Foods' 10 locations.

I visited years ago and the noodles are certainly delicious but I’ll never forget that Jason Wang donated ~$75, 000 to the suicide prevention hotline the week Anthony Bourdain died. This family will never forget how Bourdain’s visit jumpstarted their massive success.

This is actually a good 'Food Insider' review. Very professional and humble host and great business with regular people reviews....not like yuppy girls/guys eating everywhere and giving their opinions

For the East coast folks, you can order the whole package from them online. They send you the chili oil, cooked lamb, vegetable, and the dough. You can pull the noodle like in the video before cooking it, then mix everything together. It's pretty fun and tasty just like at the restaurant.

Oh thank God this restaurant hasn't closed yet. I saw some interviews of them at the beginning of lockdown and economic meltdown, they sounded pretty grim back then (they didn't get the early phase of COVID relief). Thankfully they are surviving now and hopefully forever more.

Xi'an Famous Foods is a must-go place for me whenever I visit NYC. The food is absolutely authentic and amazing. It's also beautiful to see everyone from all backgrounds enjoying their food like Xi'an natives.

As a former New Yorker, I can confirm that their food is really good. We moved out of nyc in 2015. We tried every xi'an noodle restaurant in bay area. Nothing is as authentic as theirs.

When he says "As an asian kid you're not supposed to go into restaurants" I say to him:
You are good at something you love. You take great pride in the service you provide others and are rewarded for it, I hope, fairly. Best of luck to you and others that follow such a path... wherever it may lead.

I’m taking a trip to NY just to eat those noodles in 2021.

There is a lot of craft that goes into this. Making each set of noodles to order for a restaurant takes time and space. You can’t pre-make things in advance. You’ve got to appreciate the dedication to the art.
