Watching this now 1 year later. Thank you so much for sharing your stories with us. More and more people are getting educated on things past generations should've been aware about way before our time. Best wishes to you :)

Thank you Anne for that vibrant testimony. We definitely need to have that kind of conversation so that we can deconstruct the myths surrounding black people in Canada. #blackexcellence

I’m an American trying to learn more about Canada (considering uottawa for my
MPA) and I’m so lucky that I have this as one of my first Canadian history lessons! Thanks for providing for me what was left out for you!

Well done Anne. You articulated so well what many of us and our students have gone through and continue to experience even today. Let's hope your courageous sharing will help others recognize themselves in your experience and if they are a part of the problem, seek to change.

Have the creators of the most recent school curriculum received input from the Canadian Black community? Anne is speaking her truth, how she was treated and what was taught to her. We should all seek to know the truth of all aspects of Canadian history. Personally, I am just starting my journey of discovery about all people groups of Canada.

Anne, when I heard your personal story dealing with that teacher in elementary school, made my blood boil. Seems like you are doing great things, so dust off your shoulder. All the best to you, shoot for the stars

You need to find this teacher and let her know how she impacted you. Let her know that despite her attempts you have succeeded.

This video is really important but I don’t agree with the intro talking about what was taught in school. While it is important she got to learn the truth about her history, today’s Canadian curriculum is completely different and DOES teach about the bad historical events and everything wrong that happened. One thing that should be HEAVILY noted is that Canadian, and many education systems, barely teach about culture other than European/ North American and that is so sad! With so much culture and ethnicity in Canada’s present day, there should be more focus on other countries and other important parts of history not just related to European or American history.
