It's always gratifying to see Maddow talk about science, especially space science. She's so genuinely excited by it

The US: fighting itself over politics
NASA: ok but what if we shot a space ship at an asteroid

I'm sure if we just pray really hard or build a wall and get the asteroid to pay for it, we will be just fine.

Maybe an asteroid would be the reset button the earth needs.

As long as it doesn't inconvenience Karen, we can do anything.

I'm old enough to remember when the US wanted to go to the moon. We pulled together and did it ! That was a proud time for the USA. This astroid experiment is awesome. Saving earth ! Kudos to the scientist and engineers. Nerds rule.

Now if we could work together as a planet then things like this would come together much faster.

We know we will need it. If our species survives long enough, it is inevitable that such an event will occur. It could be many thousands of years from now, but we will need it. We are actually due for another large impact.

I'm proud of their accomplishments. Been watching space issues since the 7 original astronauts.

They weren't doing this to see if they could hit it. They were pretty sure they could. What they were trying to determine is if they could affect the asteroid's orbit around another asteroid to see if this could potentially be a way of pushing a potential Earth bound asteroid out of a collision course. Expect an answer once it has orbited enough for NASA to see what (if any) change happened to the orbit.
