In this video, I unbox the MBD-X10SLL-F-O server motherboard from Supermicro. I plan on using this board as a home test lab for various server tools, such as VMWare ESXi.

Small correction :) the nic you mention at 8:20, is the Board IPMI. (same as HP ilo, dell Idrac, IBM RSA) which will among other things enable you to remote control the OS, view sensor readings and so on. it is not visible or usable for the OS installed.

Perfekt for a home server where you dont want a screen to be taking space.

Dedicated IPMI LAN port*, it is not meant for regular network connections, it's to take advantage of this board's IPMI features

I actually have a Socket 1155 Xeon in my main build, it's the Xeon E3-1230 v2. it's pretty much a Core i7 3770 (non-k) without the iGPU, which I don't need anyway. It's a great chip and it was a lot cheaper than the i7 variant. The Haswell variant of my chip is the v3 version.

neat to see the branching out of tech content

The internal USB header can be used for anything, but is most typically used on servers for connecting a flash stick for booting an otherwise diskless machine such as an ESXi 5.0 or greater hypervisor connected to a NAS, or SmartOS.

ESXi only lets you run OS X VMs if it's installed on a XServe, there may be a hack for it somewhere but I haven't seen one.

It's basic because it's for reliability and not features, there are features but there main focus is serviceability and reliability.

i5 and i7's are NOT compatible with this board.

Unless OS X is a requirement you should try an AMD opteron with higher thread count.  More bang for your buck when it comes to virtualization.
