If anyone getting error "Attempted to downgrade extension" follow the below steps to solve it!

Keep a copy of extension file in another location on your computer.

1. Open Windows Explorer, click on Organize>Folder and Search Options>View remove tick mark for ‘Hide extensions for known file types’, click ‘OK’.

2. Now replace crx extension with zip, for example, here you’re changing extensionname.crx to extensionname.zip, click ‘Yes’ and extract files to a folder.

3. Now visit Chrome://extensions page, and enable ‘Developer mode’, click on ‘Load unpacked extension…’, browse and select folder to which we’ve extracted files just now, click ‘OK’.

4. Extension will be installed successfully this time without showing any error.

hey man it really helped out alot but i cant do the last part because it only says "copy" and not adding it just opens a new window and shows the files of it so can someone explain how i should add the extension without it copying to another window ?

Didn't work. I had managed to add this old extension a year ago and it suddenyl vanished. Trying to get it back from the CRX file but this video doesn't work. I get to the extract step and it fails.

Hi, you seem to know stuff and I need your help, I need to install an extension on my chrome os chromebook. The thing is I need to do this through a USB and not the web store, I have the USB with what I want but when I try to add the extension it basically says nope because websites used to be able to install things without permission, is there any way around this? Maybe in chrome flags or settings, thanks
