Surely, you see people discussing or sharing personal information on social media on a daily basis. Not only is it impolite, but it can also cause problems in professional and personal relationships as well as among friends.

When it comes to casual conversations, some things you should always keep private. There’s really no need to reveal deeply personal or confidential information to everyone. Besides, the ability to remain discreet about certain topics makes you come across as well-mannered and more trustworthy, too.

Of course, there are exceptions. For instance, you should never remain silent when your health or safety is in danger! In some situations, getting the necessary help and support from trusted friends and loved ones is more important than trying to keep things secret. Remember that!

I've been doing this all my life. This world was full of haters long before social media existed.

#1 to me is financial info. Never tell co workers or anyone else how much money you have. They will hate you and think you did something underhanded to get ahead of them. #2 is future plans. My immediate supervisor was shocked to hear I was retiring. I had only spoken with HR about it. I told him I had been planning to retire for a year. Don't tell people personal things because they will use it against. Keep trap shut.
