Whoopi Golderg Defends Jo Koy After Golden Globes Monologue Backlash

Whoopi Goldberg is standing up for Jo Koy after his controversial Golden Globes monologue. The morning show co-host said she didn't watch the comedian's hosting performance on Jan. 7, but she did empathize with him during Monday's episode of "The View" as she understands how difficult hosting an award show can be. "These hosting gigs are brutal. If you don't know the room, if you've not been in these rooms before and you're sort of thrust out there. It's hit or miss," she said. Whoopi then made fun of her own past when it came to hosting, as she formerly hosted the Academy Awards four times. "If you read any of the reviews of some the gigs that I've had where they've just you know, whisked me into the cornfield to die on the vine. I mean, it's not an easy gig," she joked. The EGOT winner's co-host Ana Navarro didn't agree with her, but Sara Haines did get back on track to defend Jo as she "felt bad for him" after his off-script Golden Globes kick off was met with silent reactions.

I only saw the Taylor joke. It wasn’t a funny joke, but it was completely harmless. The people who cant take a joke and are crying over this are the people who are ruining comedy. Nobody can tell a funny joke anymore because they’ll get cancelled for hurting somebody’s feelings. That’s the same reason why snl hasn’t been funny for the past 10 years. I love Taylor and have been a swiftie for nearly 15 years. Judging by the way swifties have been reacting to this, you’d have thought he said a slur and attacked her. People need to grow up, learn how to take a joke and have a sense of humor, and stop being so fucking sensitive

Whoopi and Sara made their point... the world could lighten up and we need our comedians do their own thing .. Jo Koy is funny guy and did his best on short notice

You can really see the TRUE colours of the people in this room just by looking at their reactions ❤

She wasn't even the butt of the joke so I don't understand why she stared daggers at him. The butt of the joke was the media and their insane coverage of her game attendance. The joke was a jab at the media, not at her. She should be careful because sooner or later, if she morphs into TAYLOR THE ICE QUEEN, she will lose her following.

Jo Koy came out to the stage and you could see and feel how cold these celebrities were to him.

Kevin Hart, Howard Stern and Whoopi Goldberg defended Jokoy! For sure it was not an easy room so give the guy a break. I personally think he was not bad at all. Not only that, he did get everyone to talk a lot more about the Golden Globes.

I love Jo Koi. The criticism was unwarranted.

I love Taylor. But I don't understand what's offensive about the joke. I feel bad for the guy. He must have been nervous since he had only 10 days to prepare and only a first timer. That job is a tough one. Still he had the courage to take it. Whoever put him there was also responsible. Jo koy learned from this.

Jo Koy, you did great - superb considering the crowd did not know you !! Pat yourself on the back !!

It's sad to see actors & actresses unwilling to respond positively for the art of a comedian when they clearly want others to respond positively to their art. A lot of bitter and unfufilled people in that audience!!

Seeing all those celebs sneer at him is pretty disgusting. He wasn’t that funny but these people need to get over themselves

Honestly, I didn't find it to be terribly funny, but it wasn't the worst monologue I've ever heard. And the Internet going insane over the Taylor Swift joke, seriously.

He was hilarious, it was fun watching how uncomfortable the room was but he was hit in my book 👏👏👏👏

Tried watching it again. Well, listening to the monologue without seeing the celebrities' reaction and it was funny. These celebrities are so hard to please. Give this man a break, 1st time hosting and roasting celebrities and was only given 10 days to do was a hard gig.

Thank you Whoopi people are so cruel. He did a good job considering only ten days to prepare. Jealous people.

Jo Koy's jokes were tame compared to Ricky Gervais. And yet people attacked him anyway. Why? The media pundits needed clickbait to drive their viewer numbers. Jo is just one of the many comedians they use as a punchline for that purpose. This is classic Hollywood at work. No longer surprises me.

Glad she did. I’m sure it’s tough being the comedic host with all the spoiled divas in the audience. Jo Koy is funny

To be fair, Jo Koy did a good job. Let him host the Oscars, and the Globes 10x more ❤
