1971 demo recording, performed by Harvey Rubens

[Verse 1]
Young Johnny Boondoggle was an Oklahoma lad.
Caught up in the Hollywood struggle, he thought he had been had.
"Balderdash," I heard him say to Colorado Rob,
"If this keeps up, I think I'll cut my hair and get a job"
[Chorus]
Boondoggle & Balderdash.
Rockin' and a-rollin' and a-talkin' that trash.
Long on music and short on cash.
Trying to find a way they can fatten their stash.
[Verse 2]
Hey there, Boondoggle, what are you gonna do?
Your head's all bent, the money's spent, and you know that the rent is due.
To have a life on Harmony, what the landlord wants is cash.
You can't live long on just a song. He'll tell you that's balderdash.
[Chorus]
[Verse 3]
"Easy, John," said Balderdash, "I know that money's tight.
The songs we're singing haven't sold, but things are gonna be all right."
For any day now, we shall be released like Bobby Z,
And we'll get our pay from MCA and ASCAP."
[Chorus]
---
"To my friends, John Herron (Boondoggle) and Rob McLerran (Balderdash)"
