Just watched the play yesterday and didn’t know this about him. I was expecting him to play just a little bit but he did a whole piece on the piano and got a standing ovation after he was done playing. My jaw was on the floor.

With all of the superb Broadway shows I’ve seen in my lifetime, NOTHING ever moved me so profoundly as Hayes’ rendition of Rhapsody as Oscar Levant. “Tour de force” falls short of capturing it.
