I’ve watched all of Van’s video from the first day he posted. This particular episode is in my TOP 5 Van’s YouTube Videos. Pure genius.

Yes yes yes. This is what I want. I mean don’t get me wrong I love the more “podcasty” episodes or sneak peaks into your day to day, but I think you nailed an effective formula in your first ever episode and this is a return to it. (1) problem. (2) design and build solution (3) reveal and explain solution. It’s so satisfying. Keep it up!!!

The clip that stood out to me was the coffin you made for your son. That's the most heartfelt and special gift any four-year old could ever ask for! He will never forget it.

"Does this count as therapy or procrastination?" My answer, based on personal similar experiences, is "Both!"
Great work capturing and communicating this, Van!

As a professional handyman / tinkerer, I have to give props to that sping/bearing combo on the door closer. Nice work.

I'm always amazed by how engaging videos without dialogue are--this one especially so.

The best part of this is that some of the only words spoken are "close the door". Nice tip of the hat to the thing that keeps most of us old scrapers working - fatherhood. Cheers Van. Die trying amigo. 🍻

Wow dude, this video came out of nowhere for me. I don’t know who you are at the time of writing this, but you’d better be damn sure I’m gonna dig as deep as possible until I’m certain I know everything I can about you, until I’m satisfied or too tired to continue, and resign myself to the sad truth that the expertise, craftsmanship, and sheer genius that has produced this level of content is something that only comes from a lifetime of experience, and is something I’ll never be able to replicate.

I’m only 1:30 in and you’ve probably sent me into a yearlong bout of depression. THAT’S how good this first 90 seconds is, and I thank you for your efforts, from the bottom of my shallow heart. ❤

Best video you’ve made yet. I was transfixed. Not only are the things you create incredible, the angles with which you capture yourself creating them are flawless and non intrusive. Incredible.

Van Neistat is a genius. I don't know why and I'm not sure what that even means. I just know. When you see his filmmaking, you know he's achieving the artist's expression Tolstoy talks about. And then, after watching the video, you are different, you feel changed.

That was wild, the emotion I felt when you showed the box I had a feeling it was a casket before you showed it was one. Well done. As always well done.

It's like watching a magician, to me anyway. I'm amazed by Van's talent of seeing a need, visualizing a solution, then fabricating it from common parts. He makes it look so easy. I have close to zero talent with practical stuff like this. I can make a hash out of screwing a lid back on a jar. Which adds to the mesmerizing quality of watching Van at work. Just pure magic.

I have a spirited man brother his name is Benny and he taught me how to use tools. Looking at your videos has unlocked so many memories. He is like a dad to me. He taught me how to ride a bike with no training wheels.
