Did You Know In THE EMPEROR’S NEW GROOVE…

There is a detail in the movie that is a first for a Disney animated movie. In the movie, Pacha’s wife Chicha is shown to be pregnant, making her the first pregnant woman to ever appear in an animated Disney movie. She also happens to be a rare character type in that she is one of the only Disney animated mothers to not be killed or turned into a villain.

Technically this is incorrect, Darling was pregnant in Lady and the Tramp (1955). That being said, she was never drawn with a baby bump.

They did this to help cement the character of Pacha and his family. They needed to be down-to-earth, normal people living typical lives with typical problems.

And Chica is a boss. 🙂 She didn't put up with Kuzko's antics at the beginning. Honestly, I was a little surprised she let his compliment about her being pretty slide, then again, she had just whapped him with the frying pan. 🤣

Honestly I didn't realize that The Emperor's New Groove was a Disney movie because it always felt so different than the others up until that point. Between the humor and the characters, it never really dawned on me that it's a Disney film until I saw it in a Disney tier list. It goes to show how the writers of a movie really are some of the most important people behind the scenes. This particular group of writers honestly nailed this movie.
