Nice project! Next time I'd go with alumilite or epoxy. Some acrylycs (extruded type, which is cheaper and more available) can crack just with CA, so that could be your problem with small cracks.

i would use hdpe. its what hard hats and milk jugs are made of. there a ton of videos on YouTube about it. it turns really well no sanding needed really and is super tough. and it sticks to itself with heat. epoxy is also a good glue choice

I know this ring is a bit old but if you remake it or just tweak this one maybe it should curve towards the top to give it the realm bb8 feel. Lieka. Half sphere, might not be practical but would look cool
