A married woman cheated on her husband. And was left all alone.

Anna Karenina, however, chose passion. And this choice eventually led to her death.

This explanation is wrong. Anna alone and disconnected with Vronsky because she felt that she could not communicate to him her pain regarding the absence of her son Serezha. Furthermore, her dismissal from society because of the conditions of her divorce with Karenin in combination with this disconnect lead towards her feelings of jealousy regarding Vronsky. She wanted to punish Vronsky for the disconnect and apparent humiliation their quarrels had brought out, but also wanted to reconcile.
