The idea of space pirates in EVA gear clinging to a net strapped to the outside of their ship as a way of boarding their prey, is peak old school pirate movie and i am ok with that.

I get why pirates/ boarding parties would do this, and why the usual "boarding action" trope is basically going to devolve into a castle siege in space unless they can access multiple points of entry simultaneously and break in that way.

However it seems that the prey ship could easily counter this tactic, if it had even one maneuvering thruster still working. They could just lay in wait playing dead, until the pirate ship finished its final moves to get into position to board, and just slam on the engines to dart out of range, and make the pirate ship waste a bunch of time recovering it's boarding party and redo its now very different approach vector if the prey's sudden hard burn did not get them away entirely. The prey ship could even just do a hard roll and or tumble the ship at the right moment to throw off the boarding party like a dog shaking off fleas.

“Strung with heavy weighted bars … as a deadly kinetic weapon.”

Glad to see that chain-cannonballs still have a use in the distant future! xD

Damn, that's a really cool alternative idea for boarding actions. Novel enough that I've not seen it before but not so ridiculous as to seem unrealistic

I could see as a counter to the 'drifting' nets, merchantmen affixing scaled up cable cutters, like you see on real world helicopters, to the bows of their ships. The mass and momentum of both ship and net apply enough force that, so long as the cutter is strong enough, it would part the net to at least some degree and hopefully spoil the pirates plans.

I am allways impressed by how you manage to add more age of sail crap into this setting and make it feel believable. bravo!

That’s kinda interesting way to utilize the zero G and airless environment of space for the combat.

Are there any power armors like MJOLNIR or Expanse's Mars Marine Powersuit that would work in anti grav combat in this universe?

I love the idea of massive steel nets with weights thrown at huge relative velocitys to ensnare or complete disable ships. It’s the age of sail “chain shot” taken into space, which is fitting for the setting.

How very age of sail, perfectly in fitting with the rest of the worldbuilding

Very, very cool. Love the world building of this. As someone who started watching Spacedock way back in the day I'm so impressed with how far it's come. Congrats.

What once kept Pirates out now lets them in

This is really cool as it brings back age of sail boarding as well as also bringing to mind sailing ship rigging.

0:54 the 2d art of the merchant ship is making me wish for a ship breakdown vid on some of the civilian vessels of the setting.
