For anyone like me who ran into the issue of downloadconfig json file not working and saying it can't find the file, try updating the controller drivers through steamvr then try again. It worked for me. Bought a whole hrc vive headset with controllers and base station 1.0 for cheap. Played around for almost an hour till i tried hooking the whole thing up and seeing steamvr tell me the controllers needed updates.

however, i was wondering if you could also use those wand "trackers" for elbow tracking, and if you can revert them back to regular vive wands. (i guess you could use the backup of that json file, but i just wanna be sure)

connecting the controllers works, and they connect as trackers, but in the steamvr menu they dont show up as anything its just my other headset

reoccuring issue I am fighting to set up:

vive controllers are constantly "occluded" or cannot be tracked. the base stations and trackers are just off in the distance.

please help, ofc any reply and I can go in depth of my processes already done.

is it possible to use two Vive headsets and four Vive controllers so that one of the headsets only works as a receiver for the two controllers and the other one works normally as a regular headset? (I want to buy an expensive Vive headset just for the whole body and I don't know if it will work)

Do you actually need two headsets to do this? I have a Vive headset and 4 Vive controllers, so can I not just connect them to SteamVR once they are reprogrammed as trackers and see how they work in VRC, since you dont need a hip tracker anymore?
Edit: A vive headset can only connect to two controllers/trackers at a time, so you'll need usb dongles (or in my case, really long [6ft+] usb cables) connected to your pc that the controller-trackers can connect to.

Hello, I did this and it worked wonderfully! (Thanks for that :p) However I've since gotten Vive Trackers and I want to revert them, however I lost the backup due to my PC Auto-deleting it while cleaning my Files, is there any way to turn them back into Controllers? (if not, it's fine and understandable)

my pc does not recognize my controls via USB at all, I have tried 6 different cables, 2 computers (one with win 10 and the other with win 11) cables that I used to update my bases, and nothing makes any of my 2 controls recognize via usb in litghouse or steamvr to update the controls, does anyone have any idea how I can solve this?
