BeyondATC Test Flight - New AI ATC for MSFS 2020

BeyondATC has surprised us all by quietly launching into its early access mode. This came as a surprise to me, I had no idea it was this close. So, to test things out, let's take a flight on one of our favourite routes from Edinburgh down to Gatwick.

15:30 "line up and cleared for takeoff" is most peculiar phraseology! You either get cleared for takeoff or get told to line up/line up and wait.

Just bought beyondATC...looking forward to give it a try. I think it is really important to remember that the developers asked the community what we wanted....a fully functional product in months or a usable initial release with some bugs. I can't wait to see what else is added in the next few months. I think BATC has soooo much potential

As someone who's been looking into Vatsim recently and been struggling to find a way to get up to speed before jumping in proper, this has been a great training tool so far. Some rough edges but as you say, early access means they should be expected.

What we have now is a little finicky at times but still a good stepping stone/filler for Vatsim, looking forward to how it develops.

I've been spending a lot of time recently listening, learning and noting down things to understand VATSIM, but have not yet taken the leap, this tool is almost perfect for me to be able to practice what I have learnt so far, I've been impressed, however the only problem I've found so far is that vectored approaches can get me into a bit of a mess, but that could just be me

Don't know if you are aware of this or not but, click on the ATIS frequency and it sets it for you.

Interesting, I had exactly the same experience with EGPh to EGKK. Everything great until approach, it also turned me on to that heading off 335 over the airfield. I had to direct to May to get back on track. Interesting that I got the same gate too, 107

I also think the approach still needs a lot of work. I tried it yesterday and was given the inital descent instructions only after requesting it. I wasn't then given any further descents or any vectors. FSHud is much better at this but it's early days for BeyondATC so I'm sure it will improve.

Nice, but can't make myself replace FsHud yet until the traffic piece comes live. For me all the "bells and whistles" have to fit into a bigger purpose because they get old after a couple of flights. So to see traffic on taxi and in air being controlled with you in mind makes it more real imho

Amazing! I was hoping you would be all over this! I gave it a whirl quickly earlier and yeah, i had the same issue on descent. ATC held me at FL070 when I should have been down at FL040 and when I requested lower I got denied 😂 ended up at top of final at FL060 when I should have been at 2500. I know now I need to take it with a pinch of salt. Still excellent though😊

Maybe the SimBrief flight plan had issues in it and that confused BATC?
SimBrief has caused me some issues in the last few months, here and there.

Both Beyond ATC and Say intentions need a lot work on their approach/ landing phase, which is the most exciting part of the flight id say. Kills the immersion. I hope they can fix that soon. other than that beyond ATC is pretty good. For your descent, I think saying " Ready for Descent" would have worked, since the controller said " report ready for descent". give it a go, lmk if that works. cheers.
