The original had surprisingly impressive graphics for it's time, you'd think comparing it to mirage would be a night and day difference

I swear AC1 doesn't get enough recognition for how well it holds up.

The fact we are actually comparing a game from 2023 to a game from 2007 is just astonishing

I'll always prefer the parkour in the original ACs. Those games made you feel more like an expert assassin. Apart from the weightiness and the staggering animations, climbing was more thoughtful; you had to observe your environment to know if you could climb something, or find the most efficient route. In the new games you're a super mutant. Just aim at a wall and he'll find his way up.

_FOR THE RECORD_ it's not that Altair can't swim, it's that he was such an impeccable free-runner that the idea of him falling into the water by accident is SO at-odds with the Animus's reading of his genetic memory that it causes _immediate_ desynchronization 🧐

I've always found AC one truly incredible graphics wise. The character had weight, the way clothes moved and lighting affected surfaces gave it a pretty believable overall look to the game.

It is only when you get real close that you see how much textures haven't really held up over time. But from the normal point of view you spend playing most of the game, it still holds up remarkably well.

7:04 mirage is definitely faster, but the older games had a rock climbing type, is it slow yes??? but it made climbing more of a puzzle and gave side ejecting and back ejecting to scale buildings more satisfaction as there was a fine contrast between climbing slowly up a building and carving out a path up that was quick and efficient

One thing that annoys me so much is how choppy the jump is in mirage but in AC (2007) the jump is smooth and not choppy looking

The cloth physics in the first game is something else. Ubisoft was always ahead when it comes to cloth physics.

The parkour in AC1 looks so much smoother compared to Mirage. The character doesn't snap weirdly onto surfaces and feels like his jumps are actually "physics based" instead of having some sort of precalculated path that makes him all snappy and stuff. We really do need a parkour system overhaul with Assassin's Creed. A real one.

ASSASSIN'S CREED 1 still holds up well in today's standards in some terms its better like the leap of faith, parkore, story, characters, smooth animations, cloth physics . It was revolutionary in 2007

AC1 was way ahead of it's time.. and still better in most aspects

AC1 is not just a game. It was the first gate to AC series and I want to experience that feeling again.

When AC came out I thought they were the most impressive graphics ever. All these years later, I think it still holds up. For it's time, the textures and models are seriously impressive.

Very interesting comparisons mate! Mirage has certainly skipped out some things. I found it confusing how the faces and graphics of the faces are so bad

AC1 blew my mind back in the day and still holds up now, great memories from that game

A major difference in thinking between those two can be summarized with the interactions with the NPCs.
In the original one, they could help you but they could also be hindrances to you. If you collide too much, you fall and get caught by the guards. They'll also become hostile to you and would literally call the guards on you.
In Mirage it looks like they're just there to make the city look like a city.

They dumbed down the system by just trying to reproduce what's there without actually thinking about the reason and pushing the thought process further

When they said that Mirage is going to be more like older titles I expected them to implement the parkour and combat system from the older titles, where you actually had more control over things you were doing. But instead we got a slightly reskinned Valhalla with some simple stealth mechanics.

7:11 the jump from the Original Assassin have a camera effect that makes it so much better!

I think Mirage is a pretty good starting point and met my expectations for a “return to form” kind of game, but there’s definitely room for improvement. I think we just need better control over parkour and then I’d have little to no issues with the game
