Social and economic scientists have a long-standing interest in the effects of the sociospatial context of people on individual outcomes, such as school results, employment, and health. A major challenge in this research is the measurement of sociospatial context. Traditionally, it is measured at a single point in time and at one spatial scale – often a neighbourhood represented by an administrative unit. Recent research acknowledges that spatial context measures should be longitudinal, multidimensional and multiscale. Using unique register data from the Netherlands, we have created multiscale measures of population to advance our understanding of sociospatial inequalities and neighbourhood effects.

Ana Petrović is a postdoc researcher at the Department of Urbanism, Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands, focussed on sociospatial inequalities, segregation and neighbourhood effects.
