Welcome back to Tiny Blue Games! My name is Csaw or Chris, and today we are talking about Old School MapleStory in 2024. After playing for several weeks and reaching level 30 it is time to give my initial review of the server. In this video, we will talk about the good, the bad, and the ugly parts of Artale.

The unofficial OSMS servers all allow multi-client, so half the server is full of afk players getting leech, and the other half are arch-mages selling leech. Despite how populated they are, there is very little activity in them. Artale, at least in it's current state, requires you to actually play!

I've really been enjoying people making Artale content! ❤One thing i really hope for is to expand the servers. 50/50 is way too small. 😅

My biggest gripe is the lack of multiple character slots which the game’s competition Maple Land has multiple character slots since that game is more refined and as close to perfect as possible
Supposedly the Maple Land devs are considering a global launch but it might not be any time soon

The buy-sell nx existed since back in the day too, only difference is, most of us were just kids with no jobs so it wasnt really a consideration, and all we wanted was the nx clothing and such, now with the gacha cancer, and "modern" mmos, and mostly how korean mmos evolved (maplestory itself is one of the factors in this) they all became pay 2 win, so doesnt surprise me seeing people doing this with WC/Meso, i even did that in game back in 2007-2008 where i would buy NX off people with in-game meso.

I'm following this up closely, watching videos every day waiting for the jank and UI to get fixed, before I start playing. but I want the party quest haha.

The change to punching as a ranged character is purely a good thing. Yes, it makes it so those classes don't go to suboptimal maps and can now go to the maps other players use. But also, the only reason archers had to use those maps is because this mechanic forces them there. No archer or assassin went to those maps because they liked to be there. They went there because there was no alternative.

The pay to win you mentioned although may make some uncomfortable, does encourage a healthier economy as long as there is an exchange between players. I play enough to have the meso to buy a AP reset token from a player. If by ugly truth you mean a more active player base then yes. You are correct. It allows casuals to feel like they can keep up in the game, and allows hardcore players to have access to the paid items for free. That just makes a better experience for everyone. I wouldn't wish any online game that has a precedence to keep up or be competitive to not allow a very affordable way to exchange gold from hardcore players into the hands of casuals VIA 2 dollar purchases.

It definitely has some good characteristics. I think all but the most hardcore OSMS players know the game needs some tuning. Private servers and Artale both have positive changes. Auction house, auto loot, ways to get NX/gach for free, are all great changes IMO. That being said calling Artale 'official' seems disingenuous to me. Its something, and something is better than nothing, but alot of the charm/nostalgia people are desiring is coming from the old assets and artale at least currently falls flat IMO. Lastly yes HP washing being gone is a good thing but can we really say "they fixed it" before people are fighting end game bosses, to me its hard to say its fixed if eventually people get to zakum and get one shot. Thats not to say they should add Washing back, there should definitely me more quests/items that boost flat hp, so that end game gear gives you the defense/HP needed to live.

There are a lot of issues with Artale, but the community for Maple worlds (mostly OSMS enjoyers) from what I have seen has got to be one of the worst I've seen in a pretty long time. People constantly demanding them to fix this fix that, yelling at them about how the game feels janky or how it isnt a true old school experience when hardly anyone can even agree on what features are important to the experience. Additionally, things like the custom worlds avatars are so minor and help support artale via their free pass in a very non intrusive way, so I hope they keep that.

Also, OSMS, in general, is quite awful. I really like that artale is doing their own thing, like fixing atrocious skill functionality and hopefully making bosses more interesting. there are certain janky things like not being able to drop items but overall I feel like Artale is in a position where they have to appease some of the most ungrateful people I've ever seen and anything they can do is pretty cool.

I think one more pro to this is that it'll eventually launch a mobile app of MSW, which will let us all play on the go as well. I think Android already has it? But not the App Store

50 player limit per channel is enough of a reason not to play Artale

Hey there, Are still doing dexless, a thing for some of the classes like Warrior, or Full dex bowman necessary in Artale as to maximum the damage output? Thanks!
