Cloudchaser | The Story Behind Building A New Lift

Located in the heart of Oregon, Mt. Bachelor's new lift, Cloudchaser, opened to the public on December 16, 2016. Cloudchaser accesses 635 acres of previously unserved terrain and is the first new chairlift to be installed since Northwest Express in 1996.

They glossed over the fairly interesting bit about splicing the rope. The splice is hundreds of feet long and takes a bunch of hands to accomplish. Its an old school piece of work.

There is a short chair lift in Gatlinburg, TN that I like to ride, but it costs $36.95 for a single round-trip for an adult or $50.95 for a day pass...even in the off-season.
