The lady Anthony worked with really did so much for this case to help him and she's unrated in the show.
At the end I just wanted to hold Anthony as he finally cried and showed emotion.
God bless you Anthony

I think that one of the most important things this documentary shows is that the victim's behaviour is often not what you expect, at the beginning the police and lawyers talk about how emontionless and cold Anthony is without realizing that it's all a defense mechanism, the way he learned to protect himself and distance his brain from all the pain and confusion that comes with that type of abuse. So many people can be misunderstood because of this, especially in the system.

SO many people failed this kid. Everyone wants to blame him for not telling anyone but yet there was another adult in the home and there were other adults that knew Anthony was still living in that home.

The closing scene really got me bawling like a baby. I hope Anthony is able to live a normal, successful life surrounded by people that love and care for him. He deserves nothing but good things from here!

The ending where he finally showed emotion had me crying. Imagine all the abuse he’s been put through like an experiment rat, he definitely didn’t deserve to do any time as he was neglected and abused by his father. Wish him the best in life.

The stepmother not sharing Anthony's circumstances with the authorities when he was a child or when reporting her own abuse is unforgivable. She was an adult who knew it was wrong but was more concerned about herself. Despicable.

The last scene when he finally shows emotion was really heartbreaking, you can feel what he's been put through. And it was a lot since he was a kid. Anthony deserves more love and happiness in life. I wanna hug him. 💚

The end of the documentary.. when Anthony finally shows emotion… heartbreaking. You deserve the best Anthony. You are not alone. You are loved. You can do anything in life. A big hug.

“He showed no empathy” well when people go through so much abuse especially children…sometimes they see violence as their only way out

This was sooo good. The mock trial his lawyer conducted gave a lot of insight into how basic and elementary people are in their beliefs. They leave very little room for nuance. This is a case that needed to be viewed through a nuanced lens. Not all murders are "bad." Some people just need to be stopped. Some people just need to be dead. Period.

I grew up with violent father and still struggle showing emotion. I really feel for Anthony, a violent father is exhausting and emotionally wreaking experience. EVERYDAY EVERY SECOND you have to cater to your abusers emotions and you are the punching bag. Being alone with his father everyday must have been torture and I can understand how it got this far.

The eyes are the path to someone's soul. Anthony eyes are that of a child, a lost kid. So innocent. I hope he continues to grow and try to make the best out of his situation.

He couldn’t look people in the eye. He just seemed like a robot and I don’t know what went on with him internally during those two months after release but seeing him finally feel safe enough to show emotion and cry like that? I cried with him 💔

"His reaction wasnt normal, he didnt show emotions" they said. Well for someone who has been KIDNAPPED and kept away from the world for all those years, his reactions is more than normal. This kid grow up not knowing what love, affection and emotions are how do anyone expect him to show that while he was almost forced to keep everything inside of him as a defense mechanism all those years. It drives me crazy how in 2022 we are still expecting abuse victims to all have the same reaction. The most beautiful thing ive watched in a long time is the last few clips where he FINALLY let go and cried and thats his way to finally realise that he was free, free to be who he was and to express whatever he is feeling without worrying about all the walls he built during those years to protect himself from his dad. Im so so happy that he got a second chance or should I say he got his FIRST chance to live a normal life and a decent human life that is one of our basic rights.

My Dad was a narcissist, a control freak. The emotional abuse was horrendous but thankfully I didn’t suffer physical abuse. People need to understand just how damaging it is to grow up with parent like that. As a result I became a very damaged adult. Like Anthony I am unable to show emotion in front of other people or ever talk about how I feel. Inside I still have that deep seated belief that what I think or feel is not important. I don’t like being comforted or shown any kind of affection. What makes it even worse in Anthony’s situation is he was never allowed to go to school or have any friends which meant he was unable to develop any social skills either. It was just an all round horrible situation for him. People shouldn’t underestimate just how significant it was when Anthony began to cry at the end of the documentary. Speaking as someone who shares that inability to express my emotions that was incredibly impactful.

That assistant DA was a real peice. She talks about lack of empthany in Anthony. I sure as shit saw none in her. She's just a typical DA who wants a conviction no matter the circumstances.
His lawyer is my new hero how many lawyers in the US are there to actually help their clients? They're there because the want a payday otherwise they won't even talk to you.

I just finished this docu and I hope that Anthony will be able to find love, to love people, live a normal life, and be a functional human being because he deserves so much more. His story is heartbreaking — and Burt took his childhood and teenage life completely. I wish that Anthony will be the exact opposite of his father and will be able to forgive one day.

Watching this on Netflix all the step mom can say is he was a good provider and we had nice cars. U can tell she didn’t care about the son no more than the abusive father. I pray that the young man get healing and help. I realized I needed help so I started counseling and my oldest son goes with me because I refuse to repeat the cycle and we’ve been doing great.
