Kyle Lowry: injury-prone, coach-killer ... Greatest Raptor Ever

Kyle Lowry will go down as a champion, a team player, and maybe the greatest Toronto Raptor ever. This is particularly amazing when you consider Lowry's former reputation: He was known for being grumpy, injury-prone, resistant to change, and he didn't particularly want to be a Raptor in the first place. Let's meet the old Kyles, and watch how they blended and adapted to become the Kyle history will remember.

It's honestly crazy to think that Kyle Lowry played for six seasons before joining the Raptors. In my head he joined the NBA as a 26 year old rookie in Toronto.

Kyle Lowry has had like 3 careers wrapped into one

He is a perfect example for why scheme fit matters so much for players. Some busts may have that label because they were drafted by, signed by or traded to the wrong team. Lowry is a perfect example of that fact.

Who could've thought that once relatively unknown player would eventually become an all-time great for the Raptors. Yet here we are living in a world where Kyle Lowry is a relevant player and a beloved figure in Toronto and I'm so happy for him.

Lowry and DeRozan were the best duo that turned the sluggish Raptors into a powerhouse team and laid the foundation for the team's first championship.

During the celebration on the court, Masai was barred from getting on the court.
He was unfairly targeted by a man who clearly wanted to ruin this moment for him.
It was in that moment that Lowry reached out to Masai, and brought him into the accomplishment they both deserved.

A perfect resolution to the story of their relationship that lead to a championship

I remember in NBA 2K13 MyCareer I got drafted by the Raptors as a PG and Computer Kyle Lowry scored like 35 ppg that season so I only got to play like 6 minutes a game. His rating was only like 83 but he never missed.

Crazy career if you think about it. Became an all star only after 8 years and all nba at 29

You guys should do a 3 episode Full Rewind series with the story of the Raptors…like you did for the “Chosen” Cleveland Cavaliers! The whole 2018-19 season was such a fever dream and I would love to see it documented in some way, shape or form by you guys!

Kyle Lowry is a prime example of what Masai Ujiri has done for the Raptors. If Kyle Lowry had been playing for the Raptors prior to Masai’s arrival, he would have left. Masai Ujiri’s tenure has changed the perception of playing for the Raptors. He has instilled a winning culture in Toronto. A culture of getting it done and doing right by their players. Developing the best players and taking advantage of the mistakes of other teams. Even when he made the Kawhi trade, there is a belief that the man at the top knows what he is doing. Now, when players join the Raptors, rather than thinking about a team that’s gonna be bad, make bad decisions and pay you less because of taxes, they now think of an organization that is going to do everything in their power to make you the best player you can be and if you don’t become your best, the man at the top knows how to get the most out of your value on the market. As a Raptors fan, I will forever argue that Masai more than anyone is responsible for the Raptors transition from basement dweller to one of the best organizations in the NBA. He deserves a statue when he retires.

As a raptors fan 2019 was the only team I support which I have ever seen win and just living around the Toronto area and seeing a group of people used to watching teams choke and lose be able to experience winning for the first time in decades was great. The city of Toronto is eternally grateful for Kyle Lowry

So happy for Kyle....Saw him play a lot when he was in high school, first at Northeast High, and then at Cardinal Dougherty in Philly....like Seth said, he was a bulldog in every sense of the word, and could be extremely hardheaded. But, seeing him evolve, mature, and become this GREAT player and future Hall of Famer is just wonderful to see. As someone said here, he and DeRozan really did change the culture for the Raptors and helped lay the foundation for that title in 2019. I'm so happy for everything he's accomplished!

As a Spurs fan, I really knew nothing of Kyle Lowry until Kawhi joined the team. I watched video of an interview with him right after the DeRozan trade and saw how devastated he was. I watched Toronto in a few regular season games and then saw them a lot in the playoffs that year and was really impressed with Kyle Lowry. He stuck out as a tough, tenacious, steady, consistent leader on the team. Since then I've been a fan. I hope that this year's young Spurs players watch this video so they can learn that the path to greatness is a long and winding road, but for those who persevere there is a reward.

I'm a Bucks fan till the end of time and I have mad respect for Lowry. The years with DeRozan were a beautiful thing and then he helped Kawhi win the championship. Dude was under appreciated for sure.
