i am sorry but i did not like the movie at all. it was unnecessary too long. the reasons brothers betrayal was not at all convincing. the police angle didn't work at all for me. there was no closure as what happened to his parents. the sadhu been shown in negative light was not at all needed. what happened 10 yrs ago that made a gangster fear Dhanush is not clear. i got really impatient towards end and wanted movie to be over soon. bt it kept on dragging.

Oh my god. For the first time, I disagree totally with BR. The movie is decent at best. Nothing close to what BR is saying and many scenes that are predictable and premise that we have seen in many Vetrimaran and Selvaraghavan movie. I don't know what happens to BR when it comes to Dhanush

For those wondering - there was a subtle mention of what happened to Prakash Raj's father. He was burnt alive. And there was also a mention by Durai that Raayan did something 10 years ago. In the end we see Raayan killing Sethu buy burning him alive. So there is the missing link.

Baddie, Are you serious. You emphasis so much on writing and I am surprised how this movie worked for you. The core premise on why the brothers turn against Raayan is not at all convincing and a crap. The elevation to the rayan character is just done by ARR music and selvaraghavan's empty words and we don't really feel that because it is not at all connecting. The reason for SJ suryah going behind raayan is not well established. With so many loopholes, I am wondering how you liked the movie, when by your own standards, a better connecting movie (which can happen only if it is written well) like maharaaja, soorarai potru or jai bhim did not work you. I am not questioning you on why certain movies worked and not worked for you. I am just reviewing your review which is not at all consistent. Movies like star, raayan working, whereas maharaja not working. Hard to explain.

It was like the writers quit after 2/3rds of the movie and they hired an intern to finish the rest. Complete nonsense starting the betrayal scene. A song at the very end with hero and villain dancing together? Paadhiku mela Raayan nallaa erangi senjittaan.

I beleive after watching this review and seeing the movie i can say what you have said are totally false...the movie is so much worse in many things...the story itself felt so bad in writing it has lot of flaws from ground level, may be the staging was good enough but definitely the movie is under average the movie only has violence as its selling point noting worth investing and watching in theatre

Went to movie after watching BRs 9 minute Review-"Hoping for a great experience But DISAPPOINTED!"
Raayan : Interesting start and great cinematography, production design, choreography, music . But rest is disappointing.

Screen play writing lacked detailing of characters and scene staging) and it follows cliched templates - because of this it doesn't give high emotional impact. The story is not new, which is not a negative if treatment is more intricate/skillful and engaging and Raayan exactly fails here. (So, lot of scope of improvement for Dhanush as director).

First 10 Mins Was A Good Start, Childhood Portions Were Good and Dhanush tries to convey emotions mostly visually and he was successful to certain extent. Dhanush's successful films usually follows a pattern of underdog/silent/mellowed character and it is same here and gets repetitive.

Adangatha Asuran Song In Climax was a great theatrical experience where all crafts complemented each other(Dance choreo, Production design, dop, music, direction - excellent)

AR.Rahman Sir No Words, You Are Amazing As Always. . I wish every movie industry has at least one ARR/Ilaiyaraja/MSV; they are the torch bearers for tamil industry.

Dushara, Sundeep & SJ Suryah were good and worth mentioning in whatever the plot gave to them, I felt SJ Suryah's theatrics kind of repetitive(may be every one casts him for only that reason).Rest all were ok.

Overall - Average/Not so great cinematic experience

There are some good moments; and mostly because of Dhanush’s presence and the early village scenes are nice.
What seems to be so odd is that after that except raayan, the two brothers don’t seem very concerned that their beloved sister was hurt and brutalized. There is no scene or dialogue with them talking about it.
