The Swingin' Times - Theme From P.J. (Rare Aussie Jazz) (Original 45)

Here's a rare Aussie jazz gem...a cool, laid back cover of the Neil Hefti theme from the George Peppard movie, "P.J".

It was released in Australia in 1968 as the flipside of a Spin 45, EK-2279.
The A. side was "Sue For Two", the theme from the ABC TV fitness show, "Swing In Time" with Sue Backer.

As you can see, the name of the group is a play on the title of the TV show...so, I assume that they were a bunch of talented Aussie jazz musicians who got together to record the TV theme...and, that this track was as good a thing as any to put on the flipside.

This upload is from the original 45.

Saw this movie as a Double Feature with The Odd Couple and remember thinking how the themes were similar. Watched them 1st run at Century's Paramus Theater, Paramus NJ. 201-843-3830 was the show times recording. Dialed that number hundreds of times for movie times!!!

I saw the movie when I was a kid. It is one of my favorite private eye flicks and the theme is memorable

My mom took me to see this at the show back in the late sixties Still Loving It.

I saw it the first time in the late 60s on NBC when it was still showing movies, and then as a late night movie on a local station in '74. I haven't seen it anywhere since.

Saw as little kid in theater too and MESMORIZED by this theme ever since until internet allowed hearing it for first time in decades. Good little riff here and good to know where it came from or freak'n title!

There was another PJ theme that was played on a radio station here in ABQ in 1967/68, but it wasn't this one. It had a lot of trumpet solo. I'm afraid I'll never find it again.

I was in college when I'd seen this movie. George Peppard had been my favoutite Hollywood actor. Gayle Hunnicutt had looked smoldering hot and Raymond Burr had been his usual menacing self!

I loved that movie and Neil Hefti's score. If only both were available, uncut and completely remastered. As it is, you can't even find pirated copies of the bastardized broadcast version of the movie.

Thanks for posting this!  I believe that You Tube posted the whole movie, from a British collection, but it seems that it has been dropped.  I wish whoever posted it would do so again, I  haven't finished re-watching it, or tell me where I can buy it(I already tried Ebay(didn't have it), or whoever has it, would you be willing to sell me a copy of it(I can understand why you would not want to part with it).  Please let me know!!
