Took my 2019 CBR500R to the highway to review what I think makes this bike good and bad for highway riding.

Before I got my 2016 a month ago all I heard was seasoned reviewers saying it’s garbage. For someone’s first bike this is more than adequate. It’s comfortable enough to ride for hours and has plenty of power to get around. Plenty of power to get yourself in trouble as well. I’ve gotten triple digits without even realizing it or feeling like the engine was under stress. My tip to any new riders or someone looking into a certain bike is to take the presenter’s bias into consideration. Newer rider/reviewers give this bike praise for what it is. The professional reviewers complain about what it isn’t.

There’s a lot of people in the ground who got into a motorcycle with an ego. Your mature ways of looking at things is refreshing.

The bike has enough power for everything. Try dropping a gear before over-taking. The people who complain about it not having much passing power don't do that. I mean, what do you expect when you are trying to accelerate hard in your over-drive gear? That's only possible on super bikes because they make a ridiculous amount of power at the top end so you can kind of "cheat" shifting. But this is just a regular sports bike; you WILL have very noticeably less torque when accelerating outside of the bike's efficiency range.

I bought a 2022 4 months ago. It's a great bike. I am 6'4' and pretty heavy. Its more than enough for a beginner or first bike purchase. I can keep up with traffic easily.

Yeah mate. I bought one after having bigger bikes including a ZZR1200. It does everything I want it to do. Cruises well on the highways. Cheap to run including registration and insurance. Still fun in the turns as well.

This is so great to see in action!

I ordered this (will get it in a couple of weeks) and was getting a bit discouraged by a lot of reviews saying it was too slow. I was thinking I was going to have issues at 65 or 70 MPH which is as fast as I’m planning to ever ride this thing... but man, seeing it fly past those cars like that makes me pretty happy.

Thanks for showing this!

Getting one in March!! Gotta wait for the MSF season to open back up, but I’m extremely excited for this! My first ever bike. I live on a base where the only way on or off is the interstate so after looking around, this seemed like the best bike for me. Got the chance to sit on one and i’m pretty happy with how comfortable it is.

More than enough power for American roads! I had one and it was nice to ride on German roads... I sold it though because they updated the dash on the newer one so I just got the 650r...lol.

Oh, thanks for this video. As someone also in AZ my worry was keeping up at highway speeds and passing. Was contemplating a CBR650R. So seeing this video helps in my decision!

I'm 6-1 and 250lbs with all my gear on and have no problem hitting 110+ on my 500cbr.
So hanging at 75-85 on the highway is a cake walk.

45HP is where the "forever" bikes start.
They have enough power to handle the highways with ease and if they are blessed with comfort and an efficient engine they can be good commuters as well.
Anything more powerful is for speed or clout, I have no quarrels with either.
My next bike to replace my XSR 125 was supposed to be the Ninja 400, then I decided Ninja 650, then I settled on the upcoming Ninja 500, but now I want the more mature ride that the CBR500R provides, I am turning 50 next year so I guess it would suit me.

In most parts of the world the CBR 500r is all you will ever need. As I always say there is the world and then there is the US. They are a little different.
Just subbed by the way. I enjoy your content.

Nice ride man. I like how calm and relax you are. I ride the same bike (2015) in Northern Arizona. If you come up around here, give it a try for Road 89A from Flagstaff to Sedona.

The CBR500R runs mid 13's in the 1/4 mile. That's faster than the average vehicle on the road. Unless you're driving on some preteen's fantasy highway filled with Lamborghini's, McLarens and highly modified GTR's you would have no problems passing anything in front of you.

Really good to know. Easily fast enough for UK motorways. Seemed to pull from 70 to 90 well.

I'm not a new rider, I did sell mine though years ago. I now have to commute 100 miles round trip for work 5 days a week. The 600rr gets 45 ish mpg... this gets 75 ish mpg.... im thinking apx 1 gallon of gas a day at 6 bucks is pretty damn good reason for this bike

I got a 2020 cbr500r a few weeks ago and am absolutely obsessed. Only took it on the highway once so far and it happened to be the windiest day of the year where I live and it felt spooky how hard the wind hits your body. I obv was leaning down but not quite sure how low one’s supposed to go as it’s my first sport bike. Regardless it’s a blast in all situations.

Whenever someone says a 500 is too small for the highway just remember that Honda made a 500cc fully dressed touring bike in the early 80s called the GL500 Silverwing Interstate. I had one.

If you get it for a good price, it is a great bike. I got a 2022 with 1000 miles for 5700 out the door from a local dealership.
