Telling time is always tricky because when we learn Spanish we quickly discover that telling time in Spanish is much different than in English. My family is Caribbean and this how they tell time, like if it's 9:53 my mom would say "7 minutes to 10", so I thought that was really interesting. I used to think they were just making me work harder lol

Decir la hora en español es como decir la hora en francés. Por ejemplo: “il est dix heures moins le quart” es “son diez horas menos cuarto”. Pero, la única diferencia es que el verbo ser es plural, no es singular como en francés. Muy interesante.

Do you live in a hole not surrounded by anyone man? Americans don't say 8 minus a quarter BUT we say "it's a quarter to/til/of/before eight." It's not that different. It is strangely completely lost to younger Americans. They've never heard of it yet people tell time like this around them all the time.
