Block Attributes play a critical role in many AutoCAD drawings, yet updating more than a couple attributes at a time is as tedious as it is time-consuming. In this video, Donnie "The CAD Geek" Gladfelter shares a simple tip for batch updating Block Attributes using Microsoft Excel and a couple lesser known Express Tool commands (ATTOUT, and ATTIN).

Oh my gosh, to think all of the Electrical Schematics landmarks I've updated in the past because a page needed added at the beginning. This would have been so helpful to know.

Hello Master, thank you for sharing this tips.
I have a big question in my head regarding make field/text in autocad, but I can update them only through Excel (data linked). How do I do this? Would you mind to show us the way for this? many thanks to you.

Hello,
It looks like a great tool, just what I’m after. However when I try to modify the data and import the attributes the following messages appear:
‘One or more records of data could not be matched to block inserts within this drawing.
Do you want to select the block inserts and assign this data interactively?’
I can modify the blocks one by one but not do it in batch.
Any ideas of how I could overcome this?

so I did as you said, I even went back and verified that I saved as a text tab delimited before I issued the attin...I get " quotes " around the data that I import. Can you help with this?

I am wondering, can you do the same thing with blocks? I.E. a square, can you use excel to input the size of the square and get AutoCAD to update that size?

Can this be done across two cad drawings? My cad drawing 1 is a floor plan with block attributes. My cad drawing 2 is a schemetic drawing riser of the blocks in the floor plan. When i make a change to a few blocks in the floor plan, i need the same changes done in drawing 2
