GSFA 2017 | Canon Europe | Canon Miraisha Programme

'To create something that is there long after we have gone’; Canon Ambassador Gary Knight’s words encapsulates the essence of Canon’s Miraisha sustainability programme, which is featured in the accompanying film.

The film explains the philosophy behind our approach to support the development of photography, filmmaking and print education throughout Africa, where access to training can be limited, of inconsistent quality, and prohibitively expensive. The programme looks to create future livelihoods and sustainable and successful communities around these industries. It engages with the viewer by showing examples of our approach on the ground and the success stories which have been created as a result. Through this film, we aim to inspire and encourage the audience to join us as future participants or partners.

Focusing on the UN’s sustainable development goals of quality education, decent work and economic growth and sustainable cities and communities, the film explores how Canon is looking to empower local communities by delivering accessible and quality education based around industry best practices. It provides the viewer with an insight into a successful, credible and sustainable initiative that started late 2014 in Kenya, and has since expanded into Uganda, Nigeria, Ghana, Morocco and Ethiopia, with more to follow!
