8 steps to GPS Position Hold for an FPV drone

Показать описание
You can upgrade you FPV drone with a GPS Position Hold in 8 steps. It’s really simple and requires you to only buy a good GPS module with magnetometer, use INAV and configure this and that. Probably the most important part is to correctly position the GPS and magnetometer. Too close to wires or motors and the magnetic field will influence the readout. Instead of holding position, drone would do “toilet bowling” and fly away.

As one Dad to another, I switched to iNAV after watching Pawel, put his YouTube presentation on hold, while he calmly and patiently talked to his child that had interrupted him. My father always said know your vendor, and this was an indication to me that there are good people behind iNAV. I installed it on a quad and a fixed wing and I’m amazed at how simple the transition from Betaflight was. Thank you for everything!

I did a little bit of work on the magnetometer tool (not much) so it makes me very happy to see it being useful!

I tried so hard last year.
I will try again.
This is the one feature I want from the commercial world.

I've got a bn-880 and it gets sat lock in seconds even indoors. I'm going to run inav on this build. Thanks for all your work demystifying FPV.

Even though I'm pretty comfortable with GPS setup on INAV, I ALWAYS get value from Pawel's videos!

Thank you, thank you thank you! I'm on iNav 7.0 and I followed each step and it worked a treat. Stopped my toilet bowling and RTH worked beautifully.

Suggestion for tutorial on tuning for smooth quad waypoints. Now inav is very nice with waypoints in fixed wing but with quads it’s like a drunk sailor between points unless you go very slow.

Hi!
I would like to know more about position hold.
Can he serve like a panic button ?
Does he recover from any angle ?
Does he stop fast enought even with high velocity ?
Like during a sbang ?

Brilliant! Look like a great time to switch TO INAV!

Thank you so much for the guide!! Got mine to hover in place!

Nice! Can it be treated as panic mode (similar to DJI panic button while freestyling)?

I have a Ysido F4 v3 with baro Flight Controller and unfortunately, don't have SCL and SDA ports. Do you have something in mind how to connect a I2C equipement in the board? I have tried remapping ports in betaflight but doesn't seems to work.

Wow thank you! I have been avoiding fpv drones because you "can't" let off the controller. avata seems to be only drone, but now when i heard of this im going to build my own! Let see how it goes :D

Ty Sir.
Will this hold mode save fpv from crashing when done bad piloting ?
Life when flying in acro and then switch to hold mode to recover controll and save fpv?

I have a question, I have tested position hold and alt hold, and in most cases, it worked fine but sometimes I had a situation when drone started to circle around position and these circles started to bigger and bigger and I needed to turn off position hold and turn on again after which it usually stabilizes. do you know a possible reason for this? could you please suggest steps how to fix it?

I have a question, is there a mode that you can implement where if the drone moves, it will stay in the position you moved it to? Like a constant position hold? Similar to that of a high end dji drone?

So you have to combine position hold with altitude hold, ie position hold only fixes lat and long, not altitude? The disarm works automatically, mentioned at 6:20? Thanks for the info, useful video.
