Apologies as I made a mistake and SICKENING ENTANGLEMENT is NOT a new spell! The other two Entanglement special ones are though!

Winter's Grasp is not only a great new spell, it's a FANTASTIC addition to the Winter Witch. Grease is already spammable for regular spellcasters, and now the WW has an actual spell it can spam.

Just started a new playthrough. Going for Sword Saint Balor build and Winter's grasp and Burning entanglement basically trivialized whatever encounter I didn't feel like doing.

Like the tiefling alchemist and his room of goons got completely deleted by just those two spells.

Long term they don't really have that much value but man it's so nice to see big CC spells like this in the early game.

There's still shedload more to add so I hope Owlcat keeps this up with upcoming patches and DLCs.

Seriously, where the hell is my spear of purity?

While Strand of the Tangled Knot is way too gimmicky to be used effectively in most builds, I did find it nice to have it in my trickster char with completely normal spell ( it turns into a 0 level spell) so you can spam it together with everything else before any battle with the bubbles mod

They should add wish as level 9 spell. It would allow us to cast any spell in the game with all metamagic feats applied to it at max.

While I agree level 9 spells in bg are much more grandiose and feel better to cast, I really hope they don't add time stop to this game. In typical owlgame balancing fashion they'll just make strong enemies immune to it, and add a few casters to Threshold who cast it on your party and beat you to death

Winter's Grasp makes early game Ember even better than she is already. I absolutely love this spell.

It's also worth noting that all full arcane casters now have Winds of Vengeance spell - they did not have it before.

Winter grasp sounds like a real good spell... I'm ok wit hthe duration, if you need it for more than like 10 turns something went horribly wrong anyway...

I hate when videos explain spells and then don't even bother showing them.

Mortal terror is a pretty strong spell. Other enchantment spells allow a save per round and at low levels, its very difficult to reduce enemy save chances to being completely negligible. With 20 in your caster stat, a level 2 spell has a save DC of 17. Any enemy has a non trivial chance of making that save, so allowing a save per round will generally mean a rather short duration.

Mortal terror allows only 1 save to reduce it to shakened for 1 round, which admittedly is pretty naff. However, if the initial save is failed, they must save each round they take damage or become frightened, which completely neutralises them as a threat. After that, they must make another save each round they get hit or fall unconscious entirely. Once any status is applied after a failed save, they get no further saves against the effect.

Beyond the first save therefore, enemies only get repeated opportunities to have the effect intensify, not to shake it off. Something like hold or hideous laughter allows the enemy to roll to negate the effect every single round. This is a huge drawback. At low levels, the only other options for disabling spells that allow only a single save are necromancy.
