The 9th edition of the summit is to open on June 6 in the US city of Los Angeles with the US banning Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua from the Summit of Americas. The countries won’t attend in protest of the exclusion while those that do attend will protest the exclusion. It is clear that this summit is neither a summit nor a Summit of the Americas, just as in 2005 and many others failed. It has failed because it does not respond to the interests of the Latin America and Caribbean region. In reality, our goal is the strengthening of this region, former Bolivian ambassador said the debacle reflects the decline of US hegemony in the region where the real integration platform is the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC). Unfortunately, with the US, there are antagonizing interests. The US in not interested in integration. It’s just trying to instrument any scenario that suits its own interests. The US does not care about democracy nor human rights, what it wants is for its conditions to be imposed and its interests prioritized above the common interests of the region. What the US wants is to imposed US interests prioritized above the common interests of the region. Look at what the US has done to Latin America all these year. It’s more or less been the US policy to overthrow democratically elected governments in Latin America since the late 19th century. Here’s a list of all the US backed coups and military interventions in Latin America. Argentina in 1890; Chile in 1891; Haiti in 1891; Nicaragua in 1894; Panama in 1895; Nicaragua in 1896; Cuba in 1898; Puerto Rico in 1898; Cuba in 1898; Puerto Rico in 1898; Nicaragua in 1898; Nicaragua in 1899; Panama in 1901; Honduras in 1903; Dominican Republic in 1903; Cuba in 1906; Nicaragua in 1907; Honduras in 1907; Panama in 1908; Honduras in 1912; Nicaragua in 1912; Mexico in 1913; Dominican Republic in 1914; Mexico in 1914; Haiti in 1914; Dominican Republic in 1916; Cuba in 1917; Panama in 1918; Guatemala in 1920; Mexico in 1923; Honduras in 1924; Panama in 1925; El Salvador in 1932; Uruguay in 1947; Puerto Rico in 1950; Cuba in 1953; Paraguay in 1954; Guatemala in 1954; Panama in 1958; Cuba in 1959; Cuba in 1961; Dominican Republic in 1961; Cuba in 1962; Peru in 1963; Panama in 1964; Chile in 1964; Brazil in 1964; Guatemala in 1964; Dominican Republic in 1965; Guatemala in 1966; Bolivia in 1971; Chile in 1973; Uruguay in 1973; Argentina in 1976; El Salvador in 1979; Nicaragua in 1979; Nicaragua in 1981; Grenada in 1983; Honduras in 1983; Bolivia in 1986; Honduras in 1988; Panama in 1989; Paraguay in 1989; Peru in 1990; Haiti in 1994; Haiti 1995; Venezuela in 2002 ; Haiti in 2004; Honduras in 2009; Ecuador in 2010; Brazil in 2014; Nicaragua in 2018; Venezuela in 2019. We have a responsibility to mind Central America and all the Americas. Despite our affinity for the Europeans, we are not Europeans. We are Americans. And that means taking care of our own.

The United States loses many countries that could be great allies, but as they are treated with arrogance and contempt, it is a country that points out more problems than solutions for our continent, countries like China occupy this vacuum. Most of Latin America is not even an ally of China, but it is already our main trading partner and it will only increase. Here in Brazil, we have the perception that the priority for the United States is not the continent itself, but the Europeans, Russia and China, and that is why American leadership is declining in the region.

Prayers for the world. If this goes like the rest of his presidency we’ll end up at war with South America.
