Try Clay Washing Your Hair for One Month!

The first method that we're going to be using in our hair care challenge is using clay washes in our hair, likely instead of shampoo. I myself use rhassoul clay. That is the type of clay that I have been using for the past seven years to grow my own hair out so long. So that is the type of clay that I'm going to recommend starting out with.

However, if you have difficulty accessing it or if your hair is extremely oily, then you can use bentonite clay as well. But basically we mix a certain amount of clay. I usually do about a third of a cup of clay powder to two cups of liquid. I mostly just use water, although you can do half water and half aloe vera juice if you want to be more fancy.

And then you can also add in some essential oils that promote hair growth and scalp health like lavender and rosemary, maybe tea tree, maybe peppermint. You apply it to your hair as I show in my hair washing video.

Rhassoul clay has lately been my go to. I add hydrosol from different kinds, chamomile, Lavender, peppermint etc instead of just water. I'm really liking this clay a lot. I even use a small amount of just the clay as a dry shampoo and it worked wonders. I actually went a little over 3 weeks without washing. My long hair journey started when my profile Pic was taken and haven't cut my hair in a little over 4 yrs. I sit on it if I'm not wearing it up 😁. I hadn't realized it had gotten that long from wearing it up all the time. Love your videos and taking time to share 😊

I use a mixture of Rhassoul clay and Green clay. The green clay helps with my more oily hair.

I've started last month but I'll continue this month. I've tried mixing in some Henna since I've got a few grey hair to cover them up. Love from Slovenia! :)

❤❤❤ this! I do this but never measured i like this cuz it will help me save on clay lol but I also use it to wash my entire body, and I have transitioned my family by putting a scoop into an organic cotton reusable tea bag and we use it like a wash cloth... And it's a lot less messy, although I have to argue that although it "seems" messy it rinses off much easier then the invisible soap scum. I Just give the tub a good rinse before getting out of the tub... And occasionally I will use a lil JoJoba oil after my shower/ salt bath.

In Morocco our ancestors used it instead of shampoo and we still use it but we add some herbs like roses chamomile lavender etc to make the hair smell good and help get rid of bacteria

I am back to using this method, it's the next day after washing my hair and scalp with it and already it seems like it's thriving in that particular manner again like it was several months ago when I was using it weekly! (not that it hasn't been as I added historical hair care to my regimen 8 months ago and taking better care of it) This may even sound psychosomatic but It may have even grown a bit, like 1/4 inch!
Back in July I started using one of the more expensive shampoos with natural ingredients just to see how my now thriving hair would react and to be honest I don't know why I didn't just leave well enough alone as a result it didn't seem like it behaved very well like it did when I was using just the clay.
It is not a done deal yet and I will continue to use the "natural" shampoo but on a monthly basis. And I'm not at all condemning shampoos in general, but for now I'm sticking with the clay!
Yes, i'm rather impatient in my journey and hope I can help someone out.

Been watching your videos and would like to try this, but... what does the clay and such do with your shower drain and pipes? Just wondering, as I don't want to find out after the fact that it may clog things up. Thanks!

I have been told this is NOT septic safe. I’m also concerned about clay being a non renewable resource. I’m using a soap nut and flax solution instead. It’s also great for people who have oilier hair as it cleans similar to store bought shampoo. No bubbles though

If you use the clay as shampoo, do you still use conditioner? Or is the clay all you wash with?
