Thanks for that. Just what this beginner needed to know.

No one talks about what type of drill would be best for these types of holes

Thanks. I forgot what the Forstner bit was called until I got here.
I only remembered what it looked like.

only 16 y/o and did my first drill today, used safetyy glasses and thick protective gloves just incase that saw slipped off. 2-3/8, so proud of myself!

great video for beginners, however if you need a precise diameter hole, don't rock the bit

i need to chizzle 2 squares on the inside of the bore. So it will look like a circle with 2 squares on both left & right sides of the hole, how will i go about doing that?

I need a 6 inch circular hole 8 inches deep into a solid piece of wood (think tree)

Something James Rolfe of Cinemassacre should learn how to do drill a hole through tough 80s wood.

I guess it would be much better to use gloves and ear defenders as well. What do you think?
Can you also show how to cut much bigger hole? This is still pretty small. Thank you

I want to drill 1.5" holes in acrylic plastic. Forstner or hole saw? The stuff is expensive so I don't want to screw it up. My holes have to be precisely spaced but the plastic is too large for a press. I am going to have to freehand it.

Folks, do not rock your bit in the hole, it's not good practice. Firstly it is putting excess wear on the bit and risks damaging it. Secondly you will not have an accurate, straight hole. Slow and steady is correct, while occasionally lifting the bit to clear chips (Forstner bits tend to block easily).

I need to a 2.5 inch pipe through a wodden basement exterior wall that is 6-10 thick. How do I drill hole for that. Those bits in the video are not big enough for an exterior hole, and are far too small
