I recently put in solar panels and battery for $20, 000. Yesterday the system generated 60 kWhs and I used most of that to run the house, air conditioning etc and also charge my EV. whilst concurrently exporting about 20 kWHs to the grid @ 15 cents/kWH. My last electricity bill was $540.00 in credit. Pay back period for the system is approximately 4 years. I'm no longer dependent on energy corporations for electricity or petrol. Don't wait for government to solve this, just do it yourself if you want the best long term economic benefit.

Dutton should build one in the NT and one in the ACT first up. No state prohibitions, then just sell the power to the other states at a mark up till they wake up.

I'll vote for on site, neighbourhood, city, regional and inter provincial renewables, batteries, transmission lines, high insulation, high efficiency and thermal mass heat storage and electric vehicles instead.

Nuclear power is only as expensive as the government makes it via over regulation. These plants produce immense power cheaply and consistently compared to so-called 'renewables', and have triple-redundant falisafes to prevent containment breeches. It's really the only way to go if you want to meet a country's energy needs.

Nucleur energy is cleaner that coal and oil It doesn not need to hve windmills build in China out of steel and plastics.
China that does not heed terms and conditions to keep the air and the waters clean.
Bsides, what do we do with the old windmill towers, the batteries that are supposed to store electricity?
There are globally quite a few accidents with electrical vehicles, to the point that Volkwagen is reintroducing fossil fuel cars....

I reckon the peoples republic on Victoria should have 2 large reactors, Loy Yang and Hazelwood. To me, Jacinta Allen is like the witch in the snow white story and the poison apple is what she is dealing to Victorians.

Here in Canada, we have 22 nuclear power reactors that produces a bit more than 15 percent of our electricity. Never an incident, and the cleanest way to provide power and affordable. Don't listen to the chicken littles, they literally are spewing nonsense and trying to scare you. Nuclear is the only clean and attainable way to provide this much power with virtually no waste. I hope Australia follows the same path.

Here in Ontario, we also had coal smog days until we figured it out. Australia will figure it out too... eventually.

What about the "waste"?
You mean 5% used fuel.
Recycle the 95% for energy, partition the rest into useful industrial products.

Let’s not Dumb Down the Energy Debate and provide some simple facts that explain why the is a magnitude of difference between Wind Turbines and Steam Turbines in Zero Carbon Generation of Energy.
Basics
• When a coil of wire moves through a magnetic field (or vice versa), an electric current is induced in the wire this is called Electromagnetic Induction.
• Wind Turbines and Steam Turbines are connected with a generator that is driven in a circular rotating motion or Rotation.
• The more frequent the rotation the more energy is produced.
Wind Turbines Operation is based on rotation of their blades caused by changes in atmospheric pressure of a few millibars (i.e. wind) at the place they are physically located. (This wind speed may and does vary constantly)
• Optimal wind speeds for large turbines are typically between 6-12 meters per second (21.6-43.2 km/h)
• The rotational speed of large wind turbines is usually between 10-20 rpm at these wind speeds.
• Wind turbines can start operating at wind speeds as low as 3-4 m/s (10.8-14.4 km/h .
BY COMPARISON
• Steam Turbine Operation is based on a rotation speed of 3, 000 rpm.
This higher rotation speed is a significant factor in why steam turbines can consistently generate more electricity than wind turbines.
Nature’s Gift
Nature has given us Water’s amazing property of massive expansion when heated above 100 degrees Celsius. This process is known as PHASE CHANGE i.e. turning water to steam.
In experimental conditions at atmospheric pressure this expansion of Water into Steam is 1, 602 times its volume.
In real world Steam Turbine applications, when Heat is applied to a boiler to increase both the temperature and pressure the expansion ratio significantly reduced.
• Modern Steam Turbines operate at pressures around 240 bar (Atmospheres) and temperatures between 538°C and 566°C
Historically Heat was produced burning wood, coal or gas.
Atomic power can provide constant heat to operate the boilers without CO2 being generated.
