I was raised in Wewoka from about age 1 until we moved in 1955 when I was 15. Attended Central elementary school through 6th grade, then was sent to a boys boarding school in Muskogee, OK for 7th, 8th, & 9th grade when it closed in 1955. Worked during the summer at Ells Steak house washing dishes in 1954 and the Rainbow cafe in the summer of 1955 washing dishes again. Hey I was experienced. Great memories of growing up in Wewoka, fishing, swimming at the community pool and walking all over the city. Dennis O'Loughlin

Wewoka. "Barking waters". The music is perfect reflecting all the energy, hustle and bustle of the boom days that oil ushered in. People back then were optimistic and put their efforts into building up and not tearing down. Let's hope there is still that energy untapped waiting for the driller.

I lived in Wewoka till 1964--drank many a coke at Norman drugstore. Had a paper route for Wewoka times. Went to many a show at the Key theater--25 cents I think. Our last address was 405 Wewoka Avenue. Of course its not there now the funeral home on the corner expanded.:)))
