In order to solve traffic problems, governments should tax private car owners heavily and use the money to improve public transportation.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of such a solution?

Imposing heavy taxes would be the means to solving the problem, but definitely not the solution to the current problem of congestion due to vehicles. The advantages of taxing vehicle owners and investing the tax funds to better public transportation may seem very lucrative and promising but the goal seems far from reach for many developed and underdeveloped countries.



Traffic problems all around the world are not only the concern of environmentalists alone but also the concern of people all around the world. The growing mess that the traffic is creating around the world is not unknown to all the denizens of this world. The carbon monoxide gases emission from cars is poisoning the environment and depleting the ozone layer. So, imposing hefty taxes would dissuade many car possessors from taking out their vehicles on road resulting in a decline in mortality rate due to accidents, less carbon footprint so cleaner air to breathe, decrease in sound pollution caused by honking, etc. The list of benefits is endless, and one may not overlook the foremost positive factor- arresting traffic problems around the world would mean healthier lives for many, especially for people who suffer from pulmonary diseases.



However, asking car owners to pay heavy taxes isn’t the answer to the problem. What with the growing population and unreasonable augment in the property prices, large population around the world, both in developed and developing nations, has sought shelter on the outskirts of cities or in suburbs far away from financial districts and workplaces. Even in a developed country like the USA, the wide accessibility of public transportation is far from reach, and even in the future may seem unlikely because this might mean large tax funds directed to just one cause- public transportation! Moreover, spreading the public transport network to every nook and cranny of any city, may not seem a viable option; it may do more damage than good. Park and Ride is a new concept that is introduced by the city (Municipal Corporations) in many suburbs around cities like Vancouver. Then, would it be fair to impose taxation on car owners who park their cars and use public transport? Would it not mean emptying their pockets? Because, they pay for parking and the commute, additionally, they now have to pay for a large amount of taxes! It's would be a bit unfair!

In Conclusion, in order to mitigate the traffic problem, heavy taxation cannot be the sole solution to the problem. On the contrary, there needs to be a value-added solution to the problem at hand like the park and ride is!

I have a doubt, in advantage and disadvantages essays do we should write down advantages in the first body paragraph and disadvantages in the second one?
or should we write down advantages and disadvantages in both paragraphs?
