Heart disease is the number one killer of women, and childbearing women are at increased risk – especially those who have had an adverse pregnancy outcome and/or live in low-resource communities. As discussed in this recording of a presentation on Dec. 5, 2024, faculty and trainees in the UC Davis Perinatal Origins of Disparities Center are working to reduce the inequities in heart health among childbearing women through education and intervention aimed at improving biological, psychosocial and community risk factors. Our team collaborates with community partners who provide prenatal care and postpartum home visiting services to uninsured and Medi-Cal-insured pregnant and postpartum women to evaluate outcomes.

Dr. Leigh Ann Simmons shares the opportunities and challenges with their work, as well as how to engage with the POD Center to support ongoing activities.
