Federal appeals court strikes down domestic violence gun law

A federal appeals court ruled Thursday that the government can't stop people who have domestic violence restraining orders against them from owning guns — the latest domino to fall after the U.S. Supreme Court's conservative majority set new standards for reviewing the nation's gun laws.

I was locked up for having a fight with my brother when I was 19 he was 17 ..I was in the county jail for the first time ever in my life doing 5 months wondering why is it taking this long to come out of jail smh they made me take a plea because man I wanted to go home .. my brother was never gonna press charges but the state picked up the changes and made me plea smh this isn’t fair at all .. I didn’t know what to do I just wanted to go home … now with a family and a child I can’t even protect my self or my house anymore ? I don’t feel like an American 100%

How about just banning that person from being in a relationship with anyone for X number of years instead? There is no constitutional right to dating.

Leave the guns alone. They are a protected right. Restricting a right based on an often-misused process is a non starter. You can live a perfectly normal life without going on dates.

I have a misdemeanor conviction for domestic violence and it was no physical harm done I just wanted my clothes it was with my aunt I was living with it was long ago and I moved far away from my family I want that case removed so bad it’s depressing sometimes can’t have no gun rights because of it I’m sick

I got arrested for getting into a fight with my wife’s oldest nephew who was living with us at the time because he needed a place to stay I punched him because said some very disrespectful things to my wife thank god my lawyer dropped it from family violence to just a class c assault only paid a fine and got 3 months probation and still get to keep my 2nd amendment rights

It’s about time. I’m a registered nurse and I’ve taken more than 30 hours on domestic violence normally and domestic violence when deaths occur in over 90% of the cases is the women using lethal force. I’m sure some feminist is going to get on here and say it’s all the man’s fault just because some woman runs to court and gets an EPO I just mean a man can’t use his constitutional rights.
