As a depop seller, I feel so bad when I see people price gouging. I had surgery in 2019 and I lost a lot of weight. I went from plus size to “regular sizes” and I have a lot of cool clothes that don’t fit anymore so I’m selling them for people who don’t have access to stores that I do. Cute plus size clothes are very hard to find so I sell mine to share the love and I really try to keep the price low. So $10 and less. It’s really not fair to price gouge but to each their own I guess? Idk second hand apps are definitely controversial

I scroll poshmark for hours sometimes. I’ve been doing this for months, but I’ve never purchased anything. 2 weeks ago I was looking at overalls and someone uploaded a pair of brown cord ikeda overalls for $25, when I googled it people had them listed on Etsy for nearly $150!! Best purchase I’ve ever made, just wish I could wear them somewhere :D

One thing about Poshmark that makes me enraged: when a seller has several sizes of the same item but they’re all under one listing. So with jeans for example- I search the item in my size and their listing comes up EVEN THOUGH they have sold out of my size and only have the smallest size left or whatever. Like what are the filters even good for at that point.

Another reason to Google items that you know are currently/recently available in stores: sometimes they're on deep discount and you can get it way cheaper than what the reseller is asking. I've had this happen with Madewell tops especially: originally like $78, seller asking $40 which seems like a good deal until you Google it and see it's currently on sale at Nordstrom for $25.

What hurts me is that the prices on depop are ridiculous for used clothes tbh. It pushes people to buy fast fashion that is new...

As a fellow depop seller, I know we get a bad rep from everyone when one person is selling a tank from the children’s place for like $50, but there are plenty of shops with reasonable prices and are definitely willing to negotiate. Also a thrifting tip from me for thredUP, I look at the outlet!! It’s definitely more of a treasure hunt, but super worth it as I find lots of good vintage there that’s ‘unbranded’

Etsy is a good place to buy vintage and secod hand too. Check a shop called: “Freshandswanky”. She has amazing 60’s and 70’s pieces. Many of them new (dead stock) and the prices are very good for Etsy, which tends to be very expensive. But not this store.

I actually looove the chaotic nature of Poshmark lol. To me, it more closely replicates the nature of shopping at an actual thrift store where you REALLY have to dig through a lot of crap to get the good stuff. But it’s worth it imo because it can be so much cheaper than other sites. It just takes time to understand how to finesse the platform, but trust me, it gets A LOT easier. Depop is more like a hip vintage store, which I never really go to in-person anyway tbh.

ebay and facebook marketplace are great for vintage clothing bc older people sell it there so you won't have that "trendy markup" from current apps

I actually love Poshmark just because of the search ability, information given, and interaction with sellers. I can type something semi vague such as "spring floral dress" and find listings under that name without it having to be in a specific category or brand. I've found lots of very specific items too by typing in the exact names of them. I also appreciate that Poshmark sellers will give more detailed measurements, pics and item conditions compared to say Thredup, and if you filter by "relevance" rather than just listed you can find a lot more of the hidden gems from people just looking to make a little off their old clothes rather than the people trying to upcharge you.
