Led Zeppelin formed in 1968 and went on to become one of the most influential, innovative, and successful groups in modern music, having sold more than 300 million albums worldwide. The band rose from the ashes of The Yardbirds, when Jimmy Page brought in John Bonham, John Paul Jones, and Robert Plant to tour as The New Yardbirds. In 1969, Led Zeppelin released its self-titled debut which was produced by Page, as were all the subsequent albums. It marked the beginning of a 12-year reign, during which the group was widely considered to be the biggest and most innovative rock band in the world.

Thr drumming on this song needs to be put in a museum of art as one of the most important things from 20th century.

I heard Stairway to Heaven millions of times. D'yer Mak'er is my favorite Led Zeppelin song. The melody is so intoxicating, full of raw emotion.

Much as some Zep members hated this, this song made me a Zep fan in 1974. Heavy in to drums, Bonzo was my favorite.

This is when I first really appreciated the drums in a song. Absolutely love it.

I know Bonzo hated that song and reggae in general but this is one of LZ's i listen to often. His heavy drumming style was perfect

*D'yer Mak'er*

Oh, oh-oh-oh-oh-oh, you don't have to go-oh, oh-oh-oh-oh
You don't have to go-oh, oh-oh-ah-ah, you don't have to go

I, I-I-I-I-I, all those tears I cry, I-I-I-I
All those tears I cry, oh, oh, uh, I, baby, please don't go

When I read the letter you wrote me, it made me mad, mad, mad
When I read the words that it told me, it made me sad, sad, sad
But I still love you so, I can't let you go
Ah-I love you, ooh, baby, I love ya

Oh, ah-oh-oh-oh-oh, every breath I take, oh-oh-oh-oh
Oh, every move I may-ay-ake, oh, baby, please don't go, oh

I, I-I-I-I-I, ya hurt me to my soul, oh-oh-oh-oh
You hurt me to my soul, oh-oh-oh-ohh-whoa
Darlin', please don't go

When I read the letter you sent me, it made me mad, mad, mad
When I read the news that it brought me
it made me sad, sad, sad
But I still love you so, and I can't let you go
I love you, ooh, a-baby I love ya

Oh, oh-oh-oh-oh-oh, you don't have to go, oh-oh-oh-oh
You don't have to go, oh-oh-oh-oh
Oh, baby, babe, please, please, please, please

Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah, baby, ah-ah, I really love you, baby
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh, darlin', oh, oh
Oh, baby, I still love ya so, oh, baby, I still love ya so
Oh-oh-oh, ooh, oh-oh-oh-oh-ah-ah, yeah
Fire, ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah, oh, fire, ah-ah-ah-ah-ah
Oooh-ooh-hoo, yeah/Fire
Oh, baby, baby, baby

I didn't scroll through all the comments here, so someone may have mentioned it already, but if not, just fyi--
The name of this song is actually pronounced "Jamaica" the way a Brit from a certain region might pronounce the name.

Fits with the reggae theme, right?

Phenomenal song from a phenomenal band!

Back in 73 I was in 10th grade. Had an old '66 Ford Econoline gas company van that I converted to a shagger. Had an 8 track and JBL speakers. After school, on the way to work at a hot dog shop, I would fire up a fattie and listen to Zep Houses of the Holy on the way there. Put me in a perfect mood to sling some yappers.

I start to hear the beginning of No Quarter in my head immediately after the fade out... How I listened to these guys as a teenager! Still do and will never stop!!

Definitely Led Zep fan. Saw Robert Plant in St Augustine last year...he played When The Levee Breaks and if I had dropped dead during it I would have died a very happy lady. I love this song!

This song is so good, it makes me want to go to Jamaica and drink some Red Stripe beer. But then I remember that I'm broke, so I'll just listen to this song on repeat instead.

100 years from now they will still be playing these songs. They are a marvel with the right people at the right time creating them.

For some reason I have always especailly loved Bonham's explosive cymbal hit at 0:21! Go back to at least 0:18 for it's full effect! I remember my first quality walkman and wearing this tape out! That cymbal hit is a masterpiece!
