The X4 is the latest 360-camera from Insta360 with a headlining feature: 8K resolution. It's been a while since I've revisited 360 video cameras and my goal with this video is to figure out if it's finally "good enough" to be adopted by content creators and filmmakers.

this is one of the best X4 reviews I've seen- and I loved how you incorporated it with other mirrorless footage. I have one at my job and I'm loving it but I'm thinking of getting one for my personal use. I would love a tutorial on how you approach grading the flat color profile. I feel like there is very few resources and I'm loving the colors you're getting from the camera and how well you're matching it to the Sony ZVE10

I think of my X3 sometimes as a camera which can appear to be several cameras at once, by reframing without panning later (which seems to be an underused technique). Also it is a camera which allows me to enjoy the moment on family or tourist occasions without having to have my eye glued to a viewfinder. Just wave it in the air, or put it on a tripod in the middle of the action, and sort it out later. When it comes to workflow it's worth pointing out that the Studio version 5 PC app now allows reframing etc and editing together multiple clips in one pass, for those who don't want to use a second editor for that (and who think like I do that one-pass editing is at least in theory better than two passes). Finally, I almost cried when I heard the bonk of the lens of your X4 hitting the table - followed shortly after by a shot where the lens looked a bit dirty or scratched... I never put my X3 down unless onto a soft surface. Will I get the X4? I'm sorely tempted but I keep buying / upgrading cameras but then not actually using them... Anyway, great video, thanks for posting.

Awesome video! But I wonder how does it wagers against Insta360 One RS 1-Inch with X4. Specifically in Dynamic range/HDR performance, low lights and in-camera audio quality.

Wow, incredible video; I learned a lot about this camera. I’m the owner of five GoPro cameras (5, 8, 11, & two 12). I recently purchased a new Stellar S18 EXP G2 kayak, and have started doing videos for publication to my web & Utube sites. Now that I know about this camera and how good it is, this will most likely be my next camera purchase. The only thing that will be difficult is having to purchase all the accessories, which I have a ton of for the GoPros. Thanks, Greg

Just got mine in the mail today so haven't had time to put it through its paces but it seems like most reviewers of this camera tout the reframing advantage. If your environment is rectilinear 4k you now have a camera that can ALMOST allow you to reframe 360 content that can be integrated with your 4k footage from a real camera. For me, I have used VR cameras for actual VR purposes using occulus headsets and so far have only used 4k vr 360 cameras for this. This content is soft as kittens in a 360 space so I am hoping that doubling the resolution will make future content more pleasing.

Am thinking of adding a 5th camera angle using 360.

Currently using 3cam interview set up with dji pocket for wide coverage.

Planning to take advantage of the circular earth effect as a creative shot.

My only concern is if it would take away from storytelling, and recording over 20mins video be pain in the transcoding.

Curious on your thoughts on this matter. And does the earth look work well on indoors?

the part where it goes from "super shakey footage" to "extremely smooth footage" still looks really shakey.. i want to like this thing.. but idk if its worth buying all new cameras and gear. wish i had one to try out for free.

Sure, low light can be improved but still love this camera. It's the most versatile use immersive and creative interviews n vlogging for my Society x Culture News channel for my 800k followers social media. I love the overall image quality for third-person perspective, like an establishing shot. use it in what i call the utimate vlogging combo. The X4 (B-CAM third person shots) n Osmo pocket 3 [MAIN CAM) . Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses is a plus for POV..I use two DJI Transmitters (TX) with my Osmo pocket 3 had already bought one to use with my insta360 X3 (now using X4).

How did you edit the video to all fit to the frame size with the footage from the 360 footage, I edited my clips for a video on the app added my videos to adobe premiere and the video was fried. Scaled by 16:9 and had added footage from my camera

I used phone Redmi C13. I can't download the insta360 app..it says that my phone didn't compatible for the app.. can anybody tell me why and what should I do?
