For all those watching who think, "who cares, " this can really help you improve. If you know your launch velocity is high but you're not getting distance, you can work on launch angle and spin. If you are not getting the velocity, work on your flexibility and strength. Or get some lighter discs and see what happens. And so on...

It was the first thing I did with the first camera I had that could shoot slomo almost 10 years ago. It seemed like the obvious application to me. Nice to have a video like this for people who may not be very into math and physics. Just to make it easy and make sure they don't take a wrong turn. Thumb up!

Using a single camera, from a single angle, you might want to hold the disc at the point where it crosses the first and second post. You can later reference these points in the video when deciding the exact start and finish frame, since both are at an angle to the camera.

Awesome idea none the less! Gonna give it a shot. Thanks for the video!

This is a great break down and great video. I think there’s a difference between arm speed and disc speed tho. I feel like we disc golfers conflate the two. I could be wrong. But again great way to measure disc speed.

Is there any way to get a rough estimate of how far your disc should travel given the speed at which it is thrown? I realize there is a lot of factors here, but curious non the less.
Great video BTW thank you!

That’s so cool. I will be trying this out for sure… ;) great explanations too. ;)

How far does a fairly new instinct go for you on flat with that arm speed? Mine is definitely slower than yours and I get about 330 flat :/. Only disc I have you threw.

How far were your throws going? Curious to see the speed to distance ratio!

Really cool video, smart approach and something I want to try. What cell phone are you using that has 240fps!?!

Good video I’m gonna try this method. Thank you 🙏

wouldnt the % error also correlate to the FPS at which you are shooting the video? so if you can double your FPS you can reduce your error

How the hell did you calculate 65 frames? At 240 frames per sec and your throw was around 1.2 sec my estimate is you used 300 frames in 1.2 sec if your camera shots at 240 per second. So where did you get the 65 frames from . At 65 frames you would travel the distance in about 1/300 of a second

My only comment is that your volume level on this video is like at 25%. You need to jack the volume up and re release the video

There's really no reason to go through all these calculations, converting from one distance measurement to another. You can just get the shutter speed like you did (1/240), and multiply that by the number of frames to get meters per second, then just go straight to miles per hour by multiplying by 2.237.
