Sarcoidosis treatment - can you avoid steroids?

Treatment for sarcoidosis generally starts with corticosteroids (such as Prednisolone / Prednisone). Not every patient with sarcoidosis needs treatment. Corticosteroids are a very effective treatment, but many patients are worried about side effects (such as developing diabetes or high blood pressure). In sarcoidosis, we generally need to treat the condition for a long time (12 months or more).
We can sometimes progressively reduce and stop corticosteroids after this period or replace them with another "steroid-sparing drug", such as methotrexate, azathioprine or others.
Treatment in sarcoidosis is personalized in each case, because it is a complex disease. It is generally started if symptoms are very significant, there is involvement of vital organs such as the heart, or blood calcium levels are very high.

Thank You for making this video.. God bless You! I have pulmonary sarcodosis and I got diagnosed last May. I just did a CT scan to see if there was amy changes. It showed that my Sarcoidosis is mildy progressing.. i go to a lung specialist next week. Pray for me please 🙏 ❤

I’ve never had steroids. By the time it was diagnosed it was starting to die in my lungs, however, no one mentioned that my liver and spleen were involved. I’m not sure now how much damage. I’m beyond frustrated with my lack of treatment plan. My doctor asked me what sort of treatment plan I should have. I’m scared. I can’t change doctors because there’s no one else. We’re in a doctor shortage. Now, I’m suffering from pericarditis. Still no steroids, no medication whatsoever. I’m concerned.

I'm apparently stage 4 still no medications my live is enlarged with severe fibrosis in my lungs and no idea what my prognosis is I basically don't know how long I've got left. Any info would help even if it's bad news at this point.

I've been living with lymphatic sarcoidosis for many years, and I'm uncertain about starting medication. The most significant issue I face is severe fatigue, particularly during flare-ups. I have no ability to work and hace to significantly slow down my pace. At 34, I feel as though life is slipping away because I'm in bed more than not. Should I consider the potential risks of medication?

Thank you DR for sharing I was diagnosed with it a few years ago the Dr put me on 20mg prednisone then 10 mg I feel bloated stomach ache feel uncomfortable, my rheumatoid arthritis Dr Dr put me on prednisone but my pulmonary Dr said I don’t need medication

Thanks for sharing valuable information regarding treatment and alternative treatments other than corticosteroid.
I can be a case study as I am using corticosteroid - Wysolone 10 mg from 12 years. I don't have any side effects other gettiing weight gain easily. But if incase I skip the medicine for a day or two then I get running nose and 100s of snizs in a single day.
Request you to please suggest shall I try steroid-sparing drugs as I tried reducing corticosteroid to 5mg but that didn't help.

Had sarcoidosis since age 24 im now 60 took early retirement at age 50 because it became lung fibrosis and pulmonary hypertension (48.2mm ) resting oxygen of 93, 88 when mobilising the fatigue is awful apart from inhalers i get no treatment can anybody tell me at what stage i should get ambulatory oxygen

Thanks for this video. A dear friend of mine has been diagnosed lately and is suffering from fatigue and a huge weight loss over 7 months. She has had all the scans and biopsies, the result is a so-called mild version of sarcoidosis, no lung problems, luckily, so the doctors won't prescribe meds. But what can be done about the chronic fatigue? 🤔

I was just diagnosed with Saracoidosis. I am 47 ur old white male. I have enlarged lymph nodes in the middle of my chest and Granulomas in my lungs. They started me on steroids 30 mg prednisone. A day for 30 days then 20 a day for thirty days. I don’t have a primary so my pulmonologist is it I also have a cardiologist I have had a fib for 5 years I think this may be what has been causing it. Any advice?😊
