METAMORPHOSIS Swallowtail butterfly lifecycle

preview_player
Показать описание
The sequence of the life of the Swallowtail (Papilio machaon), from the egg to the adult insect, or imago for the entomologists. In a few minutes the synthesis of the marvellous prodigy of Nature that expresses all its ineffable power. Butterflies are diminishing frightfully because of human pressure on the habitat: protect them for future generations!

Hi! Thank you for this informative video. About 2 years ago we had 7 caterpillars on our tangerine tree and all but one were eaten by a huge praying mantis. We put it in a dome with tangerine cuttings. It developed into a beautiful giant yellow swallowtail.
This year we found one which is almost ready to make its chrysalis. To our surprise one of the cuttings had 5 eggs! All the baby caterpillars are safe in the butterfly dome, away from predators, and they are all doing well. It's such a feel good moment when you see them fly away into the distance.
The birds, spiders, and praying mantis have plenty of moths and their caterpillars to eat in our garden.

This was a phenomenally photographed video, so sharp and clear! Beautiful colors. I would prefer to hear a human voice.

I live middle GA and I have 5 chrysalis right now after birds ate 15 of the 20 Swallowtail caterpillars that were munching on my parsley. Hopefully, I will be able to set 5 Swallowtails free in a week or so. Its still hot here but I’m worried about my house being cooler, low 70s. I’m not sure if this matters. I have also gathered several eggs & several tiny caterpillars from two of my citrus trees and I hope the butterflies will be successful as well. I planted lots of milkweed, and plants/flowers to attract pollinators this spring and I was rewarded! This is my first time raising butterflies so I am very excited and amazed! Fingers crossed! 😊 BTW, I’m definitely planting lots of parsley, dill, & fennel next spring and more milkweed.

Hello Daniele,
to begin with some comments, I agree with all that one can read at the end of your video. But the video itself is lacking a lot of details for instance: weaving of the silk pad used to connect the caterpillar and later on the cremaster of the chrysalis.
The construction of the belt is also a very interesting and exiting event that I think shouldn't be missing and the pupation is too fast accelerated.

A zebra swallowtail laid eggs on our pawpaw leaves a few weeks ago and are now in chrysalides. 3 are tan, 2 are darker and 1 is green. According to this video 1 will hatch this year and the rest next spring. We’ll see. Thx.

Thank you for correcting me. I never heard of citrus swallowtails but will do research. :)

Fascinating! My swallowtail butterfly never emerged from its chrysalis; nevertheless, I kept it for two years before discarding it. Why didn't it? Thank you for your input.

Thank you for this beautiful video. It will be October in a few days and I found 5 caterpillars of yellow swallowtail. They were on my lemon tree. I’m protecting them in a netted cage. I don’t know what to feed them besides lemon leaves. What else can I feed them?

Hello Danielle,
this version of P. machaon metamorphosis is much better because the black text isn't there. Do you intend to do some other shooting of P. machaon metamorphosis??
