Baron Empain Palace Ready for Opening
Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Dr. Khaled El-Enany visited earlier today Baron Empain Palace after restoration as it is ready for the soon-opening as a museum telling the history of Heliopolis.
The palace will host a permanent exhibition of various photos, archival documents and plans related to the history of Heliopolis during different ages as well as films telling the history and lifestyle during this era since the Baron Empain founded modern Heliopolis.
The exhibition will display photos and information on Baron Edouard Empain himself as well as Nubar Pasha and the French architect who designed the palace. In the garden will be one of the old Heliopolis Tram wagons as well as samples of the old classic cars used to roam around Heliopolis streets during the 1920s and 1930s to give more of a detailed picture of the life then.
There is also a cafeteria and restaurant for drinks and snacks in the garden in the same early 20th century style including the servicemen and servicewomen’s uniforms.
During the inspecting visit, the minister made sure the social distancing rules are applied in the service area.
Accompanied Dr. Khaled El-Enany on his visit, Dr. Mostafa Waziry (Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities), Mrs. Eman Zidan, Mr. Ahmed Ebeid (Minister’s assistant), General Hisham Samir (Minister’s assistant for engineering works) and Dr. Moamen Othman (Head of Museums Sector)
Joined His Excellency Dr. Khaled EL-Enany on his visit, the ambassador of Belgium in Egypt and she expressed her delight in the outcome of the restoration project of the Palace and how she hopes it would be officially opened before the end of her term as an ambassador in Cairo in mid-July.
