I streamed it and pre-ordered the DVD. I think it is being released tomorrow (June 18).

My take is slightly different. I agree with you that the cinematography was exceptional. I agree with you that it is an intimate documentary of the craft of pipe making, not only the physical craft but also the devotion to Quality passed from generation to generation, hence the name “Father of the Flame.”

I differ in that I did not find the music or exquisite cinematography in the transitions jarring. I found Rush was very successful in producing an artistic interpretation of the universality and soulful history of the craft and the pleasure of not only pipe making but of pipe smoking. This was particularly impressive in the inclusion of the sacred Native American element in the documentary.

I found it did tell a story. A beautiful story of the quest, handed down from the “Father of the Flame” to the present, of the saga of the search for Quality.

I found the movie extremely moving. I highly recommend watching and if possible I suggest purchasing the DVD to support the makers of this piece of art. The cost of the DVD is less than one tin of tobacco.
