Rising of the Moon - Remastered (Cover) by Seth Staton Watkins

When I first set out on this YouTube journey, I knew nothing about mixing and mastering tracks and many of my original videos were left wanting in the audio quality department. Over the last few months, I have remastered a number of them, and I will be reposting one of them every Tuesday for the next two months. I will also be uploading new content every Thursday as well!

"The Rising of the Moon" is an Irish ballad recounting a battle between the United Irishmen, led by Theobald Wolfe Tone and the British Army during the Irish Rebellion of 1798. It was first published in 1866 by John Keegan Casey, and since then it has been covered by many of the greats including The Dubliners, The High Kings, The Clancy Brothers, Tommy Makem, and many more.

Lyrics:
[Verse 1]
"Ah come tell me Sean O'Farrell, tell me why you hurry so"
"Hush, mbuachaill, hush and listen," and his cheeks were all aglow
"I bear orders from the captain, get you ready quick and soon
For the pikes must be together at the rising of the moon"

[Chorus]
At the rising of the moon, at the rising of the moon
For the pikes must be together at the rising of the moon

[Verse 2]
"Ah come tell me Sean O'Farrell, where the gathering is to be"
"At the old spot by the river; quite well known to you and me"
"One more word for signal token; whistle out the marching tune
With your pike upon your shoulder at the rising of the moon"

[Chorus]
At the rising of the moon, at the rising of the moon
With your pike upon your shoulder at the rising of the moon

[Verse 3]
Out from many a mud wall cabin; eyes were watching through the night
Many a manly heart was beating for the blessed warning light
Murmurs rang along the valleys to the banshee's lonely croon
And a thousand pikes were flashing by the rising of the moon

[Chorus]
By the rising of the moon, by the rising of the moon
And a thousand pikes were flashing by the rising of the moon

[Verse 4]
All along that singing river that black mass of men was seen
High above their shining weapons flew their own beloved green
Death to every foe and traitor! Whistle out the marching tune
And hurrah, me boys, for freedom, at the rising of the moon

[Chorus]
At the rising of the moon, At the rising of the moon
And hurrah, me boys, for freedom, At the rising of the moon

These are tunes my Grandfather may have gotten down with, and that is a very sincere compliment.

I consider you to be the best singer of Irish rebellion songs. Which calls for " my little armalite" when you can.

"Ah, come tell me Sean O'Farrell, tell me why you hurry so!"
"Hush-a bhuchaill, hush and listen!" and his cheeks were all aglow
"I bear orders from the captain, get you ready quick and soon
For the pikes must be together by the rising of the moon!"

At the rising of the moon, at the rising of the moon
With your pike upon your shoulder by the rising of the moon

"Ah, come tell me Sean O'Farrell where the gatherin' is to be!"
"At the old spot by the river, quite well-known to you and me!
One more word for signal token, whistle out the marching tune

At the rising of the moon, at the rising of the moon
With your pike upon your shoulder at the rising of the moon

Out from many a mud wall cabin eyes were watching through the night
Many a manly heart was beating for the blessed morning's light
Murmurs rang along the valley to the banshee's lonely croon
And a thousand pikes were flashing by the rising of the moon

By the rising of the moon, by the rising of the moon
And a thousand pikes were flashing by the rising of the moon

UNSUNG VERSE

Well, they fought for poor old Ireland, and full bitter was their fate
Oh, what glorious pride and sorrow fills the name of '98
Yet, thank God, e'en still are beating hearts in manhood's burning noon
Who would follow in their footsteps at the rising of the moon!

At the rising of the moon, at the rising of the moon
Who would follow in their footsteps at the rising of the moon!

I’m incredibly proud of your growth, and your remasters. You are a truly beautiful talent and I admire that you aren’t beyond feedback and improvement. I love that you want to be the best version of yourself and I love you and your work at every step of that journey. You have such a gift, and a gift for transformation. You’re my light in the dark and my hope in a hopeless world. Thank you for trusting me to grow with me. Your favorite fan is with you all the way💚💚💚 and I hope that means you’re trying for another album soon!

You have this blend of professional skill and folk soul that is hard to match. Your voice would fit just as well on a concert stage as it would a few barstools down, and that'd a compliment. Thanks for making the music from a very important and often glossed over conflict available to newer generations.

I'm an American of Irish descent, so this song always causes a bit of a choke for me. Well done!

I think I speak for many people on here when I request at some point to hear My Little Armilite. With that being said, I'm really enjoying your work. Makes my days a lot better listening to it on my way to work.

Thank you so much for opening up to me, Seth💚💚💚 through your very subtle ways in your performances, through your thoughts and feelings on the themes, through being willing to let yourself be vulnerable with me by reading and liking my comments all the way… I’m more than grateful to be seen as a safe place for you (and you’re right; I am)💚💚💚 I like what I see and I’m so very glad you’re here. I would be a lot more of an anxious mess and a whole lot sadder without your time and talent💚💚💚 and care(:

Just came across this today. This is my top favorite song and I have always liked the Clancy brothers and the dubliners version of this song. This may be the best I have ever herd. I think Seth station Watkins has a real chance to become one of the best Irish bands ever

I woke up today with this song in my head. I struggled to chose between this and Clancy Brother's on Ed Sullivan.

I got a cat just before the first version was posted, I named her Moon because of it. I have that version as my morning alarm, she comes running when she hears her song playing
